Back from Montauk ........

Hey Guys and Gals....
Just wanted to share my experience in Montauk with ya'll.
I'll give ya the cliffnotes since I posted on SOL already.....

Needless to say when I arrived there with my dad on Sunday Sept 30th we were dealin' with a pretty good heave out there.
we got there at 8:30 AM and found unfishable conditions, so we decided on just eatin' and drinkin' for the remainder of the day.
we did get a chance to catch up with some friends while we out there and that was great.

Monday was more of the same as conditions seemed to get worse, we were lookin' at 30 mph winds and gusts to near 40. Brown, churned up water. Tuesday night however I managed to drag my dad from the Gin Beach jetty to Shagwong ON FOOT!! Let me tell ya...it was a snap for me....but the old man was hurtin' by the time we got up there. Anyway we threw darters and bucktails and anything else that would dig in to no avail. I did see one guy throw back a rat which gave me a false sense of hope at the time as it turned out. We left at 3AM cause my dad needed sleep.

Tuesday we hit the town beaches in the AM but the ocean was in bad shape even though the wind was a zero at the time and we saw nothin'. We went over to Freddys for a report and we met some guys there that fished under the light all morning and had a bunch of rats and one bass measurin' 40".

Since we leaving the next day we decided to board the Viking Starship in hope of connecting.

It cost me $65 for the fare and a rod and when I was told the pool was $10 I declined.....

Anyway my dad had one bluefish as did I

I hit a 10# rat...

then on the 3rd to last drop I felt a bump and set up on her.. she ran real good, several times...this was a strong girl. When I got the fish boatside she was a real beauty! Brought up quick by the gaff, a fat 35#, 44"

Heaviest fish that evening and she would have taken the pool.
I'm was kinda kickin' myself over it but what are ya gonna do?
At least I had some fun....

Anyway it looks like things only got a chance to clear up for a couple of days and the the heave was on again.....man I gotta get back up there again for another shot at those striped bathing beauties.....
