Hi Need a Big Striper, 1st question, what type of popper are you using and how big. Baitcaster and I do some fishing up there in early sept, and usually get them on all pearl shads with 3/8 oz jig heads, we also use a dropper teaser fly on 25lb test flourocarbon leader. Alot of times the fish may be feeding on smaller bait so you may need to match the hatch, in color and size. We also do well up there with blue and white 7/8 oz & 1 1/4 oz Atoms poppers or 3/4 oz Chrome creek chubs. Another good one is the 1 oz cotton cordel pencil popper, in chrome and blue or chrome and black or mackerel. Give these a try and we wish you much luck, let us know how ya do.

Get away from that mud!!!!! Sounds like there is No structure there at all.Go find some rocks and coves.Throw out an ell at night and youll get your big bass.Stay away from daytime fishing with poppers for big bass,it just ain't gonna happen, wishfull thinki'n!! While every no and then some greenhorn takes a cow on a popper in the daytime it is rare. For every large bass takin in the day on poppers,50 are taken at night on eels or plugs or cut bait.

Im not talking about teen size fish here,im talking about 25lb fish and up,no matter where you live of fish on the striper coast, night time is the right time. You also need to fish, holes, trough's,dropoff's,reef's etc.........These places should be close to the shore, the more craggy the shoreline the better. Also fish on the dark end of the moon and, make sure you fish after a good nor-east blow! Dont forget those eels!!!!
