Are you a club member
I was thinking last night, how many of you are members of a fishing club ?
Whether it be Mass club, RI, Jersey,Conn, etc.... and if you are, do you actively participate in the club? Volunteer or hold a chair position?
I consider volunteering 2-4 hrs a year active...

If s-b.com is a club, which it kind of seems like it is, then I will have to change my answer. But I don't belong to any. I don't know why, I just never really knew anyone in the clubs. I fish alone 99.99% of the time.

a club is a great place to get into the loop[grapevine] as to the hot spots that arn't known to most..those little out of the way places that everyone passes by...u know the one's right under your nose that you'd never think of stopping at...alot of old sharpies sit in those club's but never say boo till you start talking to them...u've heard their mean old men don't go near them type.u may have play to dumb for month's asking ?,,but at some point they will break down and give u a hint..lissen closely..and kiss their feet when they do/

You got it CS.... one thing I've learned... the quiet ones, that present themselves as aloof and dumb.. more often than not, there the sharpest of the sharpies... I've been lucky enough to have a couple open up like the floodgates of the Hoover Dam... sometimes it's info overload.... another tip... always buy the coffee AND the doughnuts while your doing the asking and hunting for info...it helps!

Neither are fishing clubs, but they fight for access rights which is very important in our neck of the woods. I like to help out when I can.

I would also like to add that being a club member is
a commitment. Seems like a lot of people like to talk but not take a walk.
If you truely believe I will see ya out there.
Slowly and surely they are taking everything away.
If we don't fight we will never have it back.
We need you.
Show up and do something.
We try hard but numbers and bodies speak.
It's always the same 30 or so to show up.
to work.
God Bless those 30 or so.

same, and to be expected...
I do not think it is realistic to expect all members to be "active" members, and I have to disagree with the statement: "So paying dues and saying you are a member is bogus".
If the 1200 plus or minus members of the MBBA (I would love to see it hit 2500 ) want to pay the dues, that's great, every nickel is needed... clubs don't run on the $ that the 30 or 40 regulars can kick, that's for sure, and I know for a fact that some of the irregulars make some healthy donations to the general fund, and the legal fund when they re-up... as long as they don't say they are "active" members (active to me, means participating in projects, events, meetings, shows, etc.) I think that it would be nice if every member showed up for the cleanup of their own beach... can you imagine the turnouts we'd get then Wendy?? I made 5 of the 9 we had this year, and had to burn a couple of vacation days to do it, but done so gladly! Also gave a couple hundred or so hours of my time in another way to the club this year.
Now... I belong to MSBA as well... all I gave them was my dues, and bought a chitload of raffle tickets..... I don't consider myself an active member of that club, and shame on me, but, there are only so many hours one can give, while trying to work, pay bills, and most importantly be an "active" parent, in todays crazy-assed world.
But, I think if you canvassed any club, you would find it the same, a very, very small percentage step up, and tow the line..... but the dues ARE appreciated.

BF..
where any fishin boats come in to off load.
next to boat ramps..along side the bulked
where people swim elbow to elbow during the day
try between the docks/slips[chunk bait]..boat rod needed for this one.
between moored boats//drop an eel right behind any stern..then crank like a mother after the hook-up cause if u don't it'll get wrapped around the next bouy
used b amazed as to where BIG fish[not u] hang out...in broad day light at times.....have lunch sometime next to a bulked in some harbor and watch the cows swim by...I have...then go back at nite

You know what Karl...you are right! I am very active in MSBA but not at all active in MBBA and I am a member. Just not enough hours in the day is right. There is just so much to do and so few new people stepping up to give the weary a break!

Yep you are right Karl.
One club takes up enough time.
I can't imagine belonging to many at a time.
Money is money right?
Besides we DO have a lot of fun with some really great people.
I'll tell ya it takes a very special lot to go out and do what
these clubs have done in the last 2 months. 5 Nor'easters,
we worked in 4 and got to play in one.
These are people that will be around in the long run
