I believe you do. The handgun safety course is different than the hunters safety course. Back when I got my first one in the early 80s they made you demonstrate to the officer that you could safely load, unload and fire a weapon. They did it in the basement range at the station. When I had to fire the handgun the I aimed and fired at the target ( handgun was a High Standard semi auto if I remember right) After the 2nd shot the officer says to me" Oh another gallery shooter"
So I emptied the clip on target rapidfire. The officer just smiled.
