I heard the other day that he's on pace to set a record for most homers allowed in a season. Ouch.

Good pitchers give up a lot of HRs becuas ethey have the stones to challenge hitters. Take a look at the list for most HRs given up.
Robin Roberts 505
Ferguson Jenkins 484
Phil Niekro 482
Don Sutton 473
Frank Tanana 448
Warren Spahn 434
Bert Blyleven 430
Steve Carlton 414
Gaylord Perry 399
When Becket's good he is very good, when he's bad he's really bad. But he's not a bad #2 starter.

Nice list with quite a few hall of famers on it,you can't put Beckett in their league.
Beckett has averaged only 6 innings and a 5.12 ERA for 19 starts that is not that great. the guy is lucky he has a great defence behind him and most of the homers were solo shots or it would be ugly.
A lot of guys can throw hard ,you got to be able to pitch.
I hope he can put a nice string of wins together.

he's only 25 and has great tools, some pitchers don't get it 'till they reach 30. he'll be a damned good one imo.

I would humbly suggest that luck has nothing to do with most of his gophers being solo shots. Most good pitchers approach a batter differently with the bases empty--they tend to challenge hitters more. That's a sign he has the ability to learn to pitch

Better get used to him. He'lll be around a few more years.
I love it when a Sox player has his worth questioned on this board. They tend to go on a hot streak shortly thereafter. Francona's an idiot =12 game win streak, Beckett sucks= shutout & best game of the season (plus 3 more years for him), Nixon sucks= batting avg increases rapidly, Varitek's not clutch enough= game winning hit(not sure about this one but it makes a better story).
I wish Bigcat (Is that you Andres Gallaraga?) would question my cow catching skills (not that they don't deserve to be questioned).

Beckett had a good game against the worst team in baseball,
Look at the team behind him.
Francoina is having a very good season. I think he was coaching scared?
The new contract has him more relaxed?
Let's see who else I can help
Teck no freakin bat, almost an automatic out been that way since the 2005 all star break.
Nixion can't hit in the clutch,he will be gone at seasons end?
Here is a new one Loretta, he got to get his head in the game, he been doing a lot of stupid stuff the last few games. I would trade him off and bring up Pedoria.

Nixon sadly is gone in '07. I respectfully disagree on your "clutch" opinion. I hope he gets rich somewhere, just not with NYMFYanks. Wily Mo is cheaper alternative in RF, Stern/Kapler as reserves.
Gonzo is only signed to a 1 year, not sure on Loretta (who was supposed to be a head's up player, yeah, head's up his arse)
Pedroia is definitely up next year. Hitting .302 in RI now.

Gonzalez will definately be signed to an extension. Pedroia will be up next year to fill in if he's not traded. I don't see Loretta here long term being that he's like 34 or 35.

Well Beckett is at it again... three dingers so far tonight, and one was a Grand Slam.
Sox are in trouble, the bull pen can't be asked to pitch 3-4 innings every night.

Boot man, you got to clean them rose coloerd galsses The Sox done nothing to help themselfs at the trade deadline,Theo must be scared of making another bad deal?
This team is full of holes and none were addressed?
Do you think the starting pitching is going to carry them with the likes of Jason Johnson, Kyle Snyder, and that big fat pig David Wells he got rocked for eight runs last time out, let alone the two Z men in the pen.
Big Popi and Manny have been carrying this team it is just a matter of time before one of them has a little dry slump
The Sox have the killer part of the Schedule coming up in a few weeks, and I think it will decide their fate?
I hope the Sox can find a way of getting Andrew Jones from the Braves

Getting a center fielder is the least of their worries. They need starting pitchers more than anything. The only way to get Jones is giving up pitching

I think Beckett will be fine...Someone just has to get in his head that its ok to throw something other than a fastball down the middle when your in trouble..You cant over power everyone..

Any time I can get a young everyday player that will hit 30 homers and drive in 100 RBI's I will trade for him in a heart beat.
Only untouchable on the Sox staff would be Papelbon.
I would let one of the young guns go,with cash ,draft picks ,minor leagurer, whatever it takes.
Will it happen I doubt it.

Delcarmen OR Hansen but not both, and not Lester no matter what. I think Atlanta wanted two of them. Pitching is at a premium these days.
I'd love to have Jones here too, but I think in two years that WilyMo will put up 30HR and close to 100 RBIs when he's playing everyday. He'll never have Jones defense though.
Oh yeah, can't trade draft picks in baseball.
