is anyone familiar with this 3d thingy.?or what will it be good for.?

That's a 3D design tool if I remember correctly - more for objects like mechanical systems or devices than the buildings & process systems that my employer uses (need a pharmacuetical plant?).

For exapmle, it would be a great tool to design a fishing reel or a lawn tractor but you wouldn't build a building with it.

yes it is mainly used with design applications in 3-d.

try Rhino 3d...it does a great job big and small...the full demo is free too. (good for 20 saves)

steve,
i have looked into solid works for a while now. i have a friend that uses that and another that uses proengineer and it is funny how they both think the one they use is better. let me know if you need something quickly drawn up. i have been using the autocad here allot lately.

I think we are somewhere over 100 licenses of Autocad here (including Arch Desktop/Mech Desktop/Building Systems). Plus we use the dreaded Rebis 3D AutoPlant , some Microstation, Blah Blah Blah...
