Internet Explorer Lockups

Anyone having any problems with I.E. locking up on them? Just recently, I've been getting non-stop "Lock-ups" (Not Responding) with I.E. I have not changed anything at all and now all of a sudden, I'm forced to go into the "Task Manager" and "End Task" on I.E. almost everytime I log on.

Any cure for this???

6.1? I'm also having some problems with it locking up at work on Win2K but I haven't had a chance to investigate it yet. I'll let you know what I find. What OS are you running?

I'll see if there is anything for 98 when I check it out. Do you know if it's 98 or 98SE??

John,

That I don't know. I believe it is just 98. Bought the computer about 2 1/2 years ago if that helps. How do I look for that info??

Right click on My Computer, go to Properties, under System it will say Win98, Win98SE, or something like that

Run the windows update to the latest IE 6.1 with the patched - will definitely take a while if you don't have high speed internet

Hi John.

I did the patch before and had the same problems.

Someone else mentioned using AdAware to see if I had any spyware. I ran it this am before going to bed and awoke to 216 files associated with spyware. I cleared them out and seem to be running alright now.

Also noticed that I have not had any pop-ups lately either. Maybe that was the problem. We'll see in time.

Oh yeah.....it's Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition if that helps

Thanks again for the help!

Nice program - I've been a little slow on the uptake for Popup killers & spam & ad software - I like that...

I reran the 6.1 SP1 again and its been 2 days without a high speed, gear up, typical Microsoft landing...

Try deleting the virtual memory file (swap file), shut down the PC and then restart and create a new swap file.

I've seen this on PC's that have been around and had updates to them. Strangers things have happened.

Hope it helps

Don't forget to check for a possible virus. Majority of the PCs I work on have one! IF you don't have a virus scanner get one.
