plastic CRAP

A few years ago I needed a table saw to do some trim work around the house so I picked up a 10" table saw from Sears. I don't use the saw very much but brought it into the shop to do piddle stuff with instead of using the big saw. It crapped out this morning.

They put a freakin PLASTIC reduction gear in the gearbox from the motor to the blade. %$%$%$%$%$%$%$s. Never again. I have bought alot of Sears stuff over the years too.

Paid like $300 for that saw too.

The quality of thier stuff is just awful these days.
I've got a big collection of older tablesaws and they are built so much better than the junk today. I was actually thinking of getting a nice new one with the nice measurements etc, but they are so badly constructed. On one model, once you lock the fence in place, you can pick it right up off the table with two fingers. That wasn't a 99.00 special either was one of the better ones.

I am sticking to my old cast iron ones. I picked up a nice contractors table saw at a yard sale last april for 5.00. Cuts nice and square and is really strong. Came back with the trailer to get it and the guy says "want this drill press?" I say how much and after another 5.00 put that on the trailer too...... Then on the way home, ran into the tree dept cutting down stuff. They let me have a trailer load of free logs for the woodstove. That was a really good day....

old Mr Pearson was one of the best cabinet makers i ever saw

he'd make his own table saw out of wood and it was accurate as hell..
talk about custom....you'd just stare at it in disbelief.

he would measure using the lines (creases) on his hand and fingers
because he Knew precisely what dimension they were having
pre- measured them countless times.
