Septembers Torment!!!!

This September is a carbon copy of last September for me!!! MISERABLE!!!! I don't think I caught a fish all last September....and it was not for a lack of effort???!!!! This September.......just the worst and I have fished from shore, kayak and boat......and I have only caught 1 fish...September 6th!!!!! I have been out I have to estimate.......1 boat trip 4 kayak trips and untold hours at the ditch......maybe 10 trips down there!!! It culminated today with me showing up on "THE WRONG SIDE" and having to watch fish bust bait up on the rocks across the way!!!!! Just horrible!!!!! Thank Gawd I am done for this month!!!! I just hope October throws me a bone!!!!!!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

[QUOTE=BigFish;798660]Right place, wrong time! Wrong place, right time! Wrong place, wrong time!

OR...right place and right time but I hafta leave and go to work (a la yesterday 0800 leaving D. Le. behind to catch 12 to 20 plus).

Larry, my entire 2010 season has been going like this! As I discussed w. you at Ditchside last Sun. And my driveway is 15 miles from the Canal in one direction; 16 miles from Cutty in the other. Just getting a single solid strike is becoming so rare for me that I am envariably not ready and I blow the opportunity. I can't even seem to trap eels this year.

I too had a rough morning at the Ditch. I got one blue and snagged a juvenile tautog today. Friday is the first day of October. You can start with a clean slate and a positive attitude! I may take the day off and hit some places from shore if you're interested.

Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about empowering people to catch up, to give them tools at their disposal that make it possible for them to access all the hope, all the promise, all the opportunity that America offers. - Marco Rubio

September was hit or miss for me. Probably did 10-12 trips or so and hit decent fish about six of them. Lots of 10- 20# class fish and 7-8 fish in the 30-35# range. Last three trips have been busts, though...I'm done until October.

I got a tip from Flaptail last year about this time when I was getting zeros every night...he suggested I completely abandon my tactics and adopt new ones, try new spots, etc. That's pretty much what I've done and its paid off. Been doing more searching and tossing plugs versus eeling this fall so far. Had one good night with eels, but my biggest scores have all been with plugs in places I just learned this year.

i've had a great sept, considering how much i've fished, but this year has been the worst big fish year for me. I can't complain, i've caught more 30lbs fish this year then i ever have in one single year, but breaking 40lbs has been impossible for me. this will be the first time in like 7 years i dont catch a 40lb fish loosing my touch. i have to weeks left........Talk about pressure.

I know what you mean. That's how 2009 was for me. Had 4 40's in '08, and at least 1 a year for the 3 years before that, and then couldn't top 33 all last season. Talk about a slump.

There's still time. I think the best shot at a very large is still ahead of us (or upon us now).

Montauk has been OFF THE HOOK for the past three weeks. Bait all over, mullet and anchovies. Pods of bass making the water black when they aren't blitzing. You just have to work certain stages of the tide and you are in. Nothing bigger than high teen fish but there are a lot of them.
