Adding Dimmer switch to drying box-Help

Sorry for all the questions guys, but electrical safety is not my strength at all. And knowing that the drying box will be on for overnight periods, I want to make sure I'm doing things safely.
What is the best (safest) way to run electricity to my drying box? I currently have a heavy duty electrical plug cord wired to the light in a electrical junction box. Can I just add a dimmer switch by putting the dimmer switch in between the plug and light? It will be plugged into a surge protector. Are there any safety issues I'm not being mindful of?

Thanks guys, this is not my area of expertise and like plumbing, learning on the job can be costly
