i/smartphone hell
argh my cell phone broke today the hinge crapped out between the top and bottom. It's held together by a thread.
so i go to verizon. Guy says I'm not under any contract on my phone...wife's is up on july 13...since when did they not auto-renew contracts...I was under the understanding that you had amonths grace period on either side of your annual date to make changes or cancel service otherwise you were under a contract? Either this guy isn't saying it all or they changed.
I'm looking at an iphone4, I want to be able to store my mpg songs from my ipod nano right now, get cell coverage, and somehow get internet onto my bigger computer at the shop. I can do this by setting the phone as a wireless hotspot but it's extra $$, what do other carriers do?
I'm trying to get rid of the $65 month dsl at the shop, replace my cell, and use as a ipod in the shop.
I need the capability to print non secure orders at the shop off the phone...
So I'm not married to Verizon or anyone else. I'd like the iphone but guess if someone else made a better phone I'd go with this.
nerd input needed
NIN

Verizon did away with the new every two last year, I think they finally phased it out in February of this year. I have a droid 2 that works very good. Not sure it would fit your needs.

Verizon said they were doing away with the new every 2, well they gave me a "new every 2" discount of $100 today which makes the iphone $99

my guys with 4g Sprint phones are getting 30 - 40 mbit download speed, they shut off their cable modem and use only the phone as a wireless hotspot. Until they cap data downloads.....

$65/month dsl? For f#$@ sake. I pay $30/month for my 25Mbit Down/25Mbit Upload with Fios. Hell, Comcast Business Class at the office is only $50/month. I hope dsl is your only option.
Regarding phones, it's going to be tough to replace your internet with any cell phone unless you're grandfathered in with AT&T on their old unlimited plan. Just about all companies now have a 2Gig/month download limit. The unlimited plans are super expensive.

comcast home service is 49,95 with their modem. Bundled with the phone and basic cable it's 110 a month. Way too much still would like other options.

As far as secure printing from a cell phone "hot spot" connection, its not secure i don't care what anyone says the software and capabilities are available to get right in.
Newer Apple products are not Flash compatible there is a great article from Job's flaming flash its awesome, great read, but you can pick up a " app " for it.
Scott knowing where your shop is i am not sure if Fios is available especially as far off the main road as you are, i would look into alternative hardwired connections, considering you are performing business type transactions over the internet.
As far as a Phone, get something Druid based, or go crackberry, those imho will be the best options for you and your needs.
i just checked and it looks like Comcast xfinity is available in that area now if i read it right,

Comcrap wants $1000 to wire to the building. HA
Verizon has one of the only dsl lines...it's some kind of frame relay line because of a sac box up the street they can't get through with a regular internet line.
I had dsl when I first moved there that cost $150 a month. UGH.
I think I decided on a iphone last night. don't like this capped bull shat...Do you guys go over their cap at all?

When I'm at work or home,I turn off 3G and use wifi. Data is unlimited over wifi. The only time I use 3G is when I'm on the road and need to check something. I haven't had a problem going over..I'd say unless you're the type of guy that likes to park in a secluded area and watch lots of porn, you should be ok. Tho YMMV..

You know I only do that when you bring me biscotti
Found out this morning there's a app that allows you to print to a wifi printer. Under $100 to replace printer so there's another piece of the puzzle.
