Fishing with Internet friends from Spain/Italy

Hi Everyone,

Just as a follow up to Bloo's excellent post on Web-based pals... I had the pleasure of hosting "Caranx" Nicola Zingarelli and his girlfriend Lydia. I first met Nicola at the Crocodile Bay Lodge in Costa Rica and then we fished together for a week in Panama. But it was the Internet and e-mail that allowed us to create a strong friendship despite the long distance that seperated us.

We joined our mutual friend Captain Ed Hughes aboard his charter boat "Special Ed" and fished a pretty good chunk of Narragansett Bay. It was with great pride that we introduced Nicola and Lydia to our home waters -- it's always fun watching others react to just how beautiful Narragansett Bay is.

We managed to take quite a few schoolies and a few keepers, mostly on topwater offerings and Storm bunker colored wildeyes.

We then took the ferry over to Martha's Vineyard where we were the guest of Peter Johnson -- the new owner of Larry's Tackle Shop. Nicola witness the frantic action that often occurs at Wasque Point and he was into bluefish after bluefish. We also ran into Crazy Alberto, Kadir, Surf Pirate, Ron Arra and a host of other great fisherman that Nicola knew from fishing forums.

Fianlly we hooked up with the Hab's guy at Codding Brewery where we introduced our guest to blueberry ale while Nicola marveled at the workmanship on a batch of Hab's poppers that are destined to connect with big gamefish in Europe and around the world.

Striped-Bass.com is not only a great place to get good solid info on tips and techniques, but it is also a place where you just might make a few friendships that last a lifetime.
