VSX

Anyone had a chance to play with the new VSX? Looking into picking up another VS150, but thinking I should wait for the release of the VSX150. Suppose have better line lay and drag. Any thoughts? Curious if it will make a huge difference.

Yes the line lay is much better and the drag looks and feels better.It has that "clicker" in the drag knob like you see on other reels and looks to be sealed a little better.Didn't test the drag on a fish though.
So yeah, it seems an improvement over the old VS, but personally I never had an issue with the line lay, other than it looked a little funny.
My only concern might be the durability versus the old tried and true version.

Its funny, I have no issues with line lay on the 150 I have with braid. But the lay on my 200 is terrible, also running braid. Just always looks sloppy. I love the 150 but keep switching between my 9ft surf rod and a 7ft spinning rod for the boat, depending on what i'm doing..... Hopefully dig up some coin and solve that problem

I was able to use a VSX 200 for two nights. I did not notice any increase in casting distance or improved performance. To tell you the truth I never had a problem with line lay on the originals I own. The drag knob tightening was a nice touch. I really liked the flat black finish but understand this will change because its too easy to scratch. The reel was notably "looser" on the retrieve which is the way I like it. Most VS's in recent years were very tight until you break them in.

I was going to get the 200 but when they axed the matte black color I decided not to. I don't think the new drag knob and line lay us worth the extra money. Never had a problem with it before. If you buy a previous VS from SWE they'll give you a $150 gift card. More incentive to just buy the VS instead of the VSX.

Just sell your 275 or 250 and you will have most of the coin for the 150

I never had a problem with line lay either Dennis.

I never had a problem with line-lay as long as a shop spooled it properly
to begin with (convex, with a hump in the center of the spool)

Since the VS tends to lay extra line near the top and bottom of the spool, it flattens out if initially spooled with extra in the center. If anyone is unsure of the "hourglass" effect, try spooling the reel yourself by reeling the line on manually until nearly full, and you will end up with line bunched up on the bottom, and spilling over the top of the spool.

again, its not a big deal if you have it spooled convex to begin with.
