Chartreuse rattle traps with no tail hook and pinched barbs with a red gill teaser was my secret weapon when I was targeting them.

Boy back in the heyday, my winter blues were cured by holdover fishing, at the Thames in CT at first and later in some nice local waters. A 50 fish day was a slow outing back then and I probably averaged at least a dozen over 20 lbs throughout the winter; my biggest a 42 lber in the Thames late in February. All on a 3/8 oz kalin ultimate jig head and my smoke/holigraphic glitter 4" spit tail.

Those were the key days to get those bigger holdovers up in skinny water which warmed up quickly. If I were home I’d probably be uncovering the yak to give it a shot.
