Ooooops
Pilot boat ran up on the Canal Banks
Seeing reports that this is a mechanical failure, which really makes the most sense. But he could have dropped his cell phone

The latest info is that he had the autopilot engaged, in the #^&#^&#^&#^&ing Canal land cut, when something failed and couldn't override it in time. The boat was clocked by a marine tracker app at 18.5 knots just prior to hitting the rocks. It went up the rocks almost to the service road. It was about 10' to the left of a tree.
Isn't it comforting to know that these are the peeps that drive big assed container and cruise ships into and out of Boston Harbor?

Well technically the guy driving the pilot boat is just that. He delivers the real “pilot” to board the ship and take it through.

He delivers the pilot while in close proximity to the ship, matching its speed and maintaining proximity so the pilot can reach a ladder. Would you like to be the pilot who has to grab onto a rope ladder while the boat is pitching when this guy was driving?

10 mph. This boat was doing 18.3 kts, about double that. Of course, this time of the year there's no enforcement, and even at the peak of summer, the Corps of Engineers would probably not bother a pilot boat.

Pretty clean bottom. Recently put back in the water after some maintenance guessing.
