Old school driving vacation
Thinking of planning a late august driving trip with the family this summer. I say old school as we usually fly everywhere as grandparents are distant. Will have a 4 and 10 year old. Probably thinking about a week.
Ideas?

Rent a house on a lake in Maine, NH, Vermont, or New York. Helps if there are a lot of local happenings in the area like county fairs. Day trips from the house and back in the afternoon for a swim before dinner! And you might even fish!

Lake Pemiquid in Damariscotta is nice. I lived and worked at the campground there when I was a kid, 45 years ago...lol. Brown trout in Lake Pemiquid get to be 6-7 pounds, large and smallmouth bass too. Paddling from Waldoboro to Bristol Mills and back, the length of Pemiquid Lake and through Biscay pond is a day long journey. There used to be small hydroplane boat races on both ponds...watch out. Have fun. I loved it there.

you could always do the NH Tourist thing. Take the kids to Storyland, Santa's Village, Clarks Trading Post, Ruggles Mine, The Flume, and the other attractions up there. There's plenty of fishing in the area as well as well as Nature Hikes and such

Ocean City NJ, it's a dry town (so bring your own). The boardwalk is fantastic, amusement parks that are perfect for young kids, short ride south to Cape May Zoo short ride north to Philly or Atlantic City.

Was investigating this, also considering Quebec City. There's an expo that time of year and I think the kids would love the fort. Lodging is pricey...haven't been there since 78 I think...

Check out Myrtle Beach SC or Asheville NC. Both have great lodging at a great rates Myrtle has a ton of stuff to do particularly with kids your kids age. Asheville is just a nice town not much on the beach fun but nice hiking stuff etc.

Greenville Inn on Moosehead Lake. Rent a cabin. Did that when my kids were about that age. Best, most relaxing vacation that I ever had. Their dining is superior as well.

That could be on the way back from Quebec city…hmmmmm…
My ten year old is funny, he says he's only going if he's flying first class. Kid may be spoiled with his travel…
Need to pack some bologny and mustard on white bread.
