Not your average blow boat

Friend is on design team of this 110' sled, which is currently getting ready for the Sydney-Hobart race.

I heard reports of 30 kts. Ken Reid at the helm. It was outfitted in Newport, it looked like it had afterburners as it went of the East Passage

Yes. Built in East Boothbay, Maine. Fitted out and trialed in Newport. A "shakedown cruise" to Charleston..... as in South Carolina, on its way to meet a container ship that took it to Sydney. That, my friends, is what disposable income can do........ No prize money in this ring. It is all cash out for the guy writing the checks, and presumably able to use the sizable loss on his taxes.

Mr Jim Clark of Netscape fame and his trophy wife Kristy are the owners.

Boat has potential to break the record of 1 day 18 hours 23 min, set by Wild Oats in 2012, they are talking about breaking the 40 hour mark

Should be an interesting race on Boxing Day

Crazy. Guy down here in westport that i am doin a lot of carpentry work for rory nugent was a world renowned pioneer in the transatlantic boat design, building, and racing back in early 80's. His boats and stories are sick. One of his last boats was sponsered by godiva chocolates. He has a picture of him and boat before race and then a picture of it upside down next to a super tanker that saved him 300 miles off azores when he got hit by a rogue wave. Threw in the towel after that one he said

I used to race against Kenny on J 24's he's from a different planet. Started doing weird things to his boat like sanding the top of his mast just to see who would copy him plenty of people did. Never beat him ever. Not even close. Maybe that's why I own a stink pot. Lol
