Messes, Mistakes and Learning

I have been slowly making my first batch of turned plugs this winter. I am taking the approach of learning as I go, with lots of guidance from a few local builders. I am also purchasing required items as I proceed; knowing there are plenty more items to buy in the future should I wish to build more. I am also learning how to take some shortcuts in the process and make certain steps easier (like making my ends square instead of round). I am also learning a lot from following this forum on a daily basis. And most importantly I am having fun and making a mess of my basement as I go (chips and sawdust everywhere).
I took advantage of yesterdays weather to do a first coat of primer in my detached garage. Second coat to be done this coming weekend, followed by some final paint. Planning on simple Black, Yellow and Green color patterns.
So far a very fun and rewarding process. I'm already contemplating a series of medium diving metal lips in the not so distant future. I just wanted to thank all the posters in this forum for the detailed information it contains.

It all started last year during a terrible thunderstorm, when I locked myself out of the house. Shelving myself with a large piece of sheet metal, I ran for cover under the tallest tree I could find!

Good for you. Started making plugs for the first time about 30 years ago, epic faulures caused mevto stop. Started again about ten years ago with a more mature mindset buying things I needed when I thought I could get away with it. Great achievement catching on lures and rods you make in the cellar!

Your progressing quick. The guys on this site are the best. Knowledgeable and extremely helpful. When you start water testing these creations with different weighting , lips , shapes, diameters and materials you get a definite appreciation of the finished results.

You picked a good needle for your first run and it looks like you nailed it.
What is with you CT guys and green plugs, though?
Some evil plot by that Jay guy to make us all go back to eels?
For God's sake paint at least 2 of them white. They're the ones you will use the most.
