Lost a Cylinder
Lost a Cylinder on the Yami yesterday while 10 miles from the dock. Made it back OK. Pulling this AM. We'll see what my mechanic finds.
Hopefully just a bad plug or plug wire.

probably a coil...most of the modern stuff have CDM's that combine switch box and coil in one...... this seems to be the year of the ornery outboard... I've had the same motor since 2004... she's been great...only routine maintenance.. which I do faithfully... it's put me through the ringer this season... I've had gaskets dissolve and foul a carb... accelerator pump injectors go bad ( took me forever to figure than one out)... a brand new fuel pump (I put it in this spring)go bad/be defective and a few other miscreant problems... more than once limiting where I could fish...it's running great now....just in time to put it away until salmon season in the spring...
Hope you get it running soon.. you guy's still have some season left to fish...it's just about done here for consistent /reliable fishing..

You were considering selling it last spring, and this is the payback you get for keeping it!? Better get that looked at so we can fish next year.

Yeah, your right Jim. I think Joe is on target with the coil. Mechanic took a quick look and the upside was all 4 cylinders have 150# compression which is factory spec. Downside is 2 of the 4 plugs were wet which means they weren't firing. New wires, plugs and next steps tomorrow.

I hope that's not a bad thing..
That's what I've put on mine in 4.5 seasons and she's up to 1500....
I'd hate to have to replace it, :-( $$$$

Ray, it appears t be electrical as I have factory spec compression so it's probably not inside. I'll know more today (I hope).

What happens with the CDI units is one bad coil will take the other one out because they share a bias from the trigger.. sometimes you can ohm test them but unlike old conventional coils that will show defective windings they seem OK...sometimes a defect in the potting material does not show on standard test and a shorted diode or open diode doesn't read as bad making them a little harder to diagnose.. as long as compression is good every thing is a relative simple ( albeit expensive at times) fix...

Ya, just spoke to a friend who does this stuff for a living and he said the same thing. I've decided that I am pulling either tomorrow or Monday and taking it to my Yami dealer who has worked on this motor as long as I have owned it.

I'll have this issue resolved, one way or the other on Tuesday afternoon.

OK, boat is pulled and home in its house.
Steve Gunther came to the marina and the results are fuel pump, 2 injectors and probably the vst.
He's gonna work on it at my house Sunday but I am done for the season.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

Great guy Phil. Extremely knowledgeable, dependable and reasonable pricing considering he came onsite. I will use him as long as I have a boat.
