Bitcoin revisited

Broke through $4000....... Still intrigued. Still haven't found a way to invest in it. Price has skyrocketed over past four months and it has designated into two classes of Bitcoin. Old threads here reveal some interesting predictions. I will find a way to get involved, even if to a very limited scale. It could have legs in ten years....

It could also be confiscated as it is used to support sterile transactions of terrorists, organized crime (spyware/malware), and foreign interference peddling

After over 35 years selling into financial services, I can only relate that all the bank guys I know are staying away from it. Too easy for fraudulent transaction/criminal activity to take place.

No boat, back in the suds.

Wait, anonymous money? Nobody would ever do anything illegal with that ; ) - Ooops, gotta go launder my laundry ; )

Yes, Bitcoin is often used for illegal activities. Start here:

GBTC is a viable option if you get by the 2% mgt fee they charge for doing nothing.... Of course that pales in comparison to the >85% premium one has to pay..... Investors in bitcoin have made some life changing gains over the past year plus. But as a classically trained economist/investment advisor, there are some very red flags flying....
Chef, can you tell me you would ever consider paying 85% premium for anything? Just presenting the other side of the risk coin.

Gbtc is way over priced for the amount they actually hold, I agree 100% . Thing is Gbtc is the easiest in for the average Joe . Soon as more options are available , it will tank .

Just buy actual Bitcoin in person or from an exchange like Coinbase .

People made a killing collecting and selling beanie babies and Pokémon cards too.

The higher the risk, the higher the reward or the loss.

$16400 at 10 pm up 1800..... after commencing trading on CBOE today. Much of the recent gains are on anticipation of participation IMO. Air, fluff, smoke and mirrors, call it what you will. But some have and will make money, and some will lose BIG........ Too few whales control too large a percentage of the overall market. I have seen one report that says 1000 people own 40%. They all know each other and talk, and just want to make money. So they don't want to sell a large portion and kill the price. And they can all "conspire" for lack of a better word, because as a currency, it isn't fraud to share information as it would be if you held a controlling position in a publicly traded company. It just reeks of the possibility for a pump and dump. I am out.... and was never in.

for anyone even thinking about cryptocurrencies investing, start by opening an account in Coinbase (Coinbase is FDIC insured for US customers up to $250,000, for security breach or employee theft, and keeps only 2% of its currency online). Coinbase directly trade in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin. Invest any amount you can afford (think about 1-2% portfolio and that in worse case you can afford to lose 100%, always possible). Don't think about buyin whole "coins", these things trade in units that go out 6-8 decimal places so $10-100's can be invested as easily as $1000's. The are over 200 currencies in the world now. Stop thinking and go for it, I did but I also have a high tolerance for risk. I also have had help...not sure if he is on this board

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

If you think the Bitcoin thing is crazy, take a good hard look at what is happening in the CrypoCoin space. People are INVENTING cryptocurrency at 7AM and fools are buying the crap instantly. Look at Ripple (XRP), INSANE!!!!

Ripple is actually a bad example , been around since 2004 ... also they have american express on board and lots of banks using their blockchain

Lots of ICO's are total bs , but some are not . All this seems crazy, but hey look at a smart phones today . Did you see that coming 20 years ago?

To risky for a retired guy. I worked all my life and we live comfortably. I'm not going to risk my assets on this stuff. Not saying people are not getting rich on it because they are. I'm just too conservative (at least with my money) to risk it.

A friend of mine grew up as a 1%er. Parents were LOADED. He could have become anything he wanted in life as his parents could have placed him in any good college he chose. Long story short, his dad put everything they owned in an investment that was sure to explode. The story ends with his parents loosing everything, including their house and my friend is now a nail banger framing houses.

Kudos to Chef, but I make my money with my hands and with extreme caution. Call me the tortoise.
