Looking to buy a Travel Trailer
Just ordered a 2023 Subaru Ascent with the tow package. We are gonna hit the road South this Winter. Looking on the 28 to 32' range.
Anyone with one? Looking for recommendations.

Hi Paul before you buy such a big Trailer please make sure that SUV can handle toeing it. Be safe

A few years ago some distant relatives of mine were retired and touring the country with their trailer and wanted to meet me. They show up in an F350 dually. The trailer was 57 feet! They didn’t show up with the trailer obviously, not sure where they parked it.

57' is hard to believe, unless it's a tractor trailer and at most those are 52'

Some states allow a bit over 57 but I think most are 53. That’s essentially a semi trailer. At that point why not just buy a luxury motor home with a vehicle on the back for side trips? I didn’t see it but they seemed happy. Can’t imagine what the gas bills were like.

Yeah 53' is correct, I'd rather sleep in a hotel/motel

I would consider hooking the trailer up and towing it before you buy, you'll be surprised the difference in handling with only an extra 500 pounds

While I’m not knowledgeable in these things I just did a few googles and am now an expert. I’m sure you’ve done your homework but this article is very interesting.

Also remember you have to add for cargo, and weight of people in the vehicle. A trailer that weighs 3500 pounds 2 adults and cargo if you add a full tank of water at 8.33 pounds a gallon can add up to 5000 pounds real quick

We will stay under 24' Bob. I had a converation with the dealership today and they assured me the Ascent we have ordered has 5K towing capacity, upgraded trans cooler, etc. They did say I will need a trailer with electric brakes, which shouldn't be an issue.

I hope you have a great time Camping and creating memories
I do miss my time camping on the beach but sense they shut it down up here and I sold mostly everything I probably won't be going anytime soon
