Iceman6 GB it is and always has been. Now what kind of rods and what reels? I like penns myself but they are not to popular these days. Back in the 70s they where the best of the best.

GB, have Custom wrap Penns' 10 fter and 8 fter. Have Penn 704, 4400, 5500, 8500, and the new I think 5600L - the bigger Liveliner reel - love it.... Have little 7 ft' schoolie pole, I want something that can throw up to 1 or 1.5 oz jig, sick action, light as hell, can cast a mile, do you know of such a pole, I'm thinking getting steelhead pole and use it for mr. stripah???

GB, Spin Spin Spin, that's all I use.... Will most likely put 4400, 5500 or Liveliner on the pole...

Glad to see that there are a few out there that still like the Penns. I looked at the baitrunner the other day at Bucos and liked it . Thinking of getting one as I do not have any baitrunners at this time have always used conv. for bait. How long have you had it??

Got it last year around want to say August - used it for the fall run with 30lb Fire - took a 35lber from Cape in September - no complaints with reel - real smooth, love the baitrunner feature as I mostly fish eels @ night - still too early to tell but I got it as a gift so no complaints here.....

Hey ice what about a St. Croix TS70MHF Inshore for schoolies? Pair that with a Shimano Stradic 4000 and you have a killer schoolie combo!!!!!!!!! The rod handles from 1/2 to 1 1/2oz 10 to 20lb line 7ft with a fast action MH.

What do you think?

That combo I metioned above would be perfect IMO lets see what others come up with as well but the St. Croix Inshore TS70MHF paired with a Shimano Stradic 4000 can't be beat for the price!

BAMMM!!!! to Bloo "Emirill" Crab... Cross - checked LMAO...

Ice - yer scaring me with yer hockey, you playing with these guys or dreamin' about it? That's what Liam is going to play when he's older - hockey

I know what you mean about Gwenyth being the best V-Day gift you could ever get your wife. Liam was the same for TheBetterHalf last year but this year I gotts ta produce ... Wait until she's a few months older, even more fun and less outright fear that you'll drop her on her head or something...

GB - It's not that the Penns are out of favor these days. It's more that they aren't the only affordable game in town anymore. They also have not exactly been at the forefront of the technological advancement of the reel in recent years. But they do work and most of the models are pretty solid...

New Haven, that's like 20 minutes from the famous Leetes Islands, right? Sorry, I'll take Cuttyhunk

Ice if you are looking for a real light rig and some great fun try the one I bought last year at Bucos it a ST.CROIX 7' lite power mod-fast action scII graphite BEN DOERR SURF SYSTEM/ss70L and I put a Shimano 4000fg on it. This rig is so light you feel like your not holding a rod and reel at all. Great for schoolies and (small blues).See John I do have some reels other than Penns also the 5000fg on a 8' BEN DOERR SURF
