so far tonight

McCain looks like a deer caught in headlights..

i didnt see last nights.. but tonight.. already he's getting pounded.. his nervous laughing and giggling tell it all. i'm not an obama guy.. but he's much more convincing than mccain. i would LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to get mccain in a poker game. he's pretty bad at bluffing.

There he stands, draped in more equipment than a telephone lineman, trying to outwit an organism with a brain no bigger than a breadcrumb, and getting licked in the process. ~Paul O'Neil, 1965

I was impressed the Obama didn't bumble (much). I though they both spoke well and over all it was a decent, if mildly boring debate.

I almost crapped myself when Obama seemed to indicate he would go harder after Pakistan in what seemed a more confrontational way. Because, err, that's pretty dumb on too many levels to count.

I agree it was pretty tame, and even overall...

McCain certainly didn't look confident at times, and he had many non sequitor 'ish statements. But he did get some jabs in to rally the party.

Obama's biggest compliment has to be that he was thoughtful and articulate, when his detractors have said that he can't speak without a telepromptor. He also followed up with some good specifics to back up his points.

Considering this should be McCain's strongest subject, I'd like to give the edge to Obama, but considering he didn't score a knock out blow it may just be a wash.

I missed a few minutes. I tivo'd "My Name is Earl" and it was a little more important than the debate.

The first thing I saw Obama say in response to the bailout was " I submitted a plan with 3 things..."
Bull%$%$%$%$! He didnt submit anything! The dems have been working day and night on this plan and he just showed in Washington a day ago. WHat an arrogant prick. "I submitted" whatever

then, how about the question, what would you reduce in your administration in response to the bailout. In seconds, Obama's response went to " I am going to add, add, add, add. Even Leher was frustrated.

Then there were the 5-6 times Obama said, I agree with Senator McCain.

I like how Obama made sure to get the first response in before Leher would finish asking the question by repeating the first syllable of his response - it really put McCain on the defensive and shortened his speaking time. The first speaker has the freedom to frame the answer, while his opponent has to counterpoint before offering his opinion. It's much harder to get your message across when you have to first address someone else's, then cycle back to your message.

Agree as well. They both made errors, they both warped the truth a bit. I believe McCain was correct on a few positions that Obama was not (Pakistan, Afghanistan, Surge, Russia, Achmad, Castro, Chavez). Obama was good with the "I never voted for the war" (thought that bus has left the building), Focus on AFG (though he is still wrong on so many levels). And Kissinger came out today stating that Obama put words in his mouth and that McCain was correct.

Pretty close. Both should be fairly pleased with their performance. I don't think either really caused any seirious damage.

I find it interesting that you talk about the Surge in the past tense, when all those troops are still in harms way.

An interesting move by Palin in her debate with Biden might be to call out the people who are responsable for the current mess, from both parties and name names. Show she is a true reformer and that she doesn't care who she offends, as long as the American people are represented.

Not once did McCain look directly at Obama when addressing him.

Someone should have walked up there and smacked him for lack of manners.

I thought it was pretty ignorant of both of them.
