Just noticed this new Muzik forum (nice ! )
Maybe this can go down like my sticky tread in the sports forum " The greatest ever" (Bobby Orr)
My opinion ( and I'm sure many will agree) "The greatest rock band and album ever PINK FLOYD Dark side of the moon
Gotta give the Beatles a nod.......the amount of great music they put out in only 6 years is amazing and the way they transfomed in that amount of time is unbelievable.
The Top 10 bands of all time...(In no Particular order) IMHO
The Who
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
The Kinks
Grand Funk Railroad
Rush
Cream
The Yardbirds
Jethro Tull
This, of course, is open to debate
"If you're arguing with an idiot, make sure he isn't doing the same thing."
Rock and Rock has to be sloppy, blues based, booze, drugs and sex fueled IMHO.
Floyd? I mean did they even get laid as rock stars or where thety sitting around in the hotel getting depressed?
Mid 60's to mid 70s Rolling Stones is the best rock band ever.

I love floyd, but love the stones equally...
Because of what you have above, I always rank the stones above the Beatles, and I like the Beatles...
Get yer ya-ya's out took me from stones listener to fan in 45min!

They would have made my list if they stopped right after that.......Some Girls was probably there last good album....everything after that was crap.....we're talking 25+ years of crap
Everytime I hear Emotional Rescue I get that vomit taste in the back of my throat.
Sympathy for the Devil and Gimme Shelter are awesome tunes
Sticky Fingers and Get yer Ya-Yas out are awesome albums...but they need to pay the price for 25 years of crap

I disagree, I refound Voodoo Lounge recently, and think it got a bad rap and actually has some pretty good rock songs on it
and who can't love Kieth singing...

Boozy, loose? Blues based?
That makes these guys up on the list

seriously Brian, they are a serious consideration for my number 1. talk about a band that NEVER changed and followed the latest fad. True to their adolescent roots.
And they bring up another key quality to a great rock band. You cant take yourself seriously.
For pure rock and roll it would be hard to argue Jim... plenty of good youtube AC/DC

I love all the bands you guys have listed here so far but I got to weigh for the band I have seen the most. The Grateful Dead! I've seen 29 times not including Rat Dog Review, Jerry Garcia Band, and Bob Weir solo shows. Stoned, sober, or somewhere in between they always treated me good. God I miss those days.
I have found myself listening to Shine on You Crazy Diamond numerous times lately. I could listen to Gilmore every day pretty much. I think of Floyd a class unto their own.
