That is brutal. I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

I know some people love them but IMO motorcycles are too dangerous. I road on once and decided I would never get on another one again...and I never did.

I am very sorry to hear of this unfortunate situation. I will keep him, as well as you and the family lifted up in prayer, at this time.
God bless you all!

Be encouraging, not discouraging

Paul. I will keep Butch in my prayers.
Me and the rest of my siblings (two brothers and one sister) all ride. My closest brother just went through this same thing just five years ago. A young woman texting cut him off. He also lost a leg in that accident.
What sucks is all the time that he spent in Iraq (the first time around), he never got barley a scratch. Then he gets it from home and worst of all, because someone is texting on their cell phone putting others lives in peril.
I wish a speedy recovery for Butch and his family.

The future ain't what it used to be. --Yogi Berra

OK, just got off the phone with my brother. The Docs have saved Butch's arm. Lost a couple of fingers but the arm will be ok. He had 7 hours of surgery on the arm.

I would truly like to thank my extended family (SB.Com) for staying with me through this ordeal. You guys (and gals) are the absolute best bunch of people I have ever had the honor of calling my friends.

Thanks John and thanks to everyone.

This will be the last post unless something happens that is significant.

One thing I should tell you guys is the girl that hit Butch had no auto insurance and is an apartment dweller. I always thought that you could not register a car unless you had liability insurance. Basically I guess she is destitute so Butch will not be getting any kind of windfall insurance settlement.

The bike community is getting together and doing a run and the family is pitching in. Thank God he has medical coverage because they are already over $150K in hospital bills.

How could she be destitute and have a Ford Excursion?

It would be akin to having a Mercedes and claiming poverty.
She should be help legally and financially responsible for ALL costs, regardless of how long it takes.

It's just insane!

I hope for the quickest and fullest recovery for your brother.
I have always been impressed with the power of the human spirit, being able to overcome adversity. We're all pulling for him!

Latest on Butch is that he is still in the hospital and they continue to take small pieces of his left leg. He has a significant infection. Poor guy is fighting a good fight.

I'm still angry about this and want something done to prevent someone else going through this terrible ordeal. I am happy he will pull through but still sad for the effect it will have on him and his family. My thoughts are with him and his family.

To many people don't think about the impact they have on others and just go about their business without a thought about anyone else. For better or worse we all have impact on someone else's life so try and make sure the impact you have is for the better. The world would be a lonely boring place if it weren't for others. Also this event helps me to remmeber no matter how bad things seem for me there is someone else who has it worse.

Piemma,
I am glad to hear he will make it out of the hospital. We all should think about using a phone in the car. I try to use my blue tooth when ever I can.

thats why they call it fishing not catching

Paul, if someone organizes a fund-raiser I'd be happy to donate a print to help Butch out

Just give me a shout if you need anything - I know it's gonna be a long haul for him and the family

I have thought about it but I don't want to impose on the guys. Butch is very active in the Revolutionary Re-enactment groups in RI and Mass. he also is very active in several Bike clubs. Those 2 orgs are doing a fund raiser and a Bike Run for him.

I really appreciate the offer. Several of the guys including Larry (Big Fish), Andy (Finnatic) and a bunch of others have offered to donate plugs, time, etc.
I think I will have a better feel for what Butch would want once he is out of the hospital. I think the best thing everyone can do right now is pray. They continue to deal with the infection in his leg and a whittling away at it.
