Fighting Tuna

Anyone watch this new show on discovery? I just watched the first episode and discovered, much to my surprise, that I know most of those guys from my Montauk days.

Kind of like a different take on Wicked Tuna.

I saw it last night. It was OK. I don't like you're taking "my-fish" and "money out of my pocket" BS. But it is fun to watch the clusterscrewups on their boats.

No one is making any real money comm fishing tuna. Yeah a few fish are caught and some make a few grand on some trips but over all it is such a joke and a lie that people are making a living doing this. Most of them are happy if they break even.

BTW...who the hell runs from LI to Georges without a spare fuel filter??? These guys are not too sharp. I would have liked to see the other boat toss him a paddle instead of a fuel filter

The guys across my dock do more than just break even.

It will be interesting to see how many people get weeded out next year with the nonsense safety regulations.
I'm looking at a $5k investment I need to make because my current raft will not work as documented vessel. Plus my survival suits which are just fine but old will need to be replaced.

I might be taking a year off. It's not a good investment with my current track record of catching giants in Cape Cod Bay.

I beg to differ. I've known Paulie Stern for about 20 years and he does make a living out of catching tuna. Not only BFT, but he also fishes the canyons commercially for YFT and eyes.

He fishes a boat owned by stockbrokers.

There's always money behind all of these tuna boats. Half of the guys on georges own a body shop, seafood company, are a contractor or run a charter business. It's not woe is me. Then you have the next crop of kids whose parents own a company and are tuna fishing their way through college on mom and dad's dime.

The gillnetters and draggers out there with two beat up 130s and 2 swivel rod holders are about to have their cod season shut down and are the ones getting food taken out of their mouths

The fish belong to anyone and everyone that want to fish for them...this still is AMERIKA

Most will not get rich over it...when all tallied some will make a few thousand and some will leave a dock at mid night owing for dockage and fuel and bait and ice.

UUUUU want to go broke...go tuna fishing

AFAIK, the Tuna Tangler Too is owned by Paulie. He does sometimes fish stockbroker owned boats when fishing the canyons. What difference does it make who owns the boats? The question was weather or not they are making a living (or part of their living) catching tuna. IIRC Dave on wicked tuna also owns his boat, the "hardmerchandise" and he supplements his tuna income by gillnetting during the winter.

Only 2 episodes that I know of. They replayed both on Sat

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

With the after effects of Sandy, I didn't catch the first or second episodes, so I'm not sure when they originally ran. If I see another episode scheduled I'll post about it.
