So, did you fish the holiday weekend?

or were you stuck in too much traffic?

i had the pleasure of exploring some new, to me, surf. i spent the weekend in Ipswich, babysitting my girlfriend's cousin's dogs and house. i got out sunday and monday mornings for some pretty good striper action. on a tip from a local tackle shop, i fished Crane beach. sunday morning i got into stripers up to 39". with all the small bait around, they were jumping all over the red gill teaser. i went back out with my girlfriend in the evning, but only had a few hits. well, monday morning made up, numbers wise, for the slow sunday evening! i landed about 20 fish. nothing as big as sunday morning, but still a blast! so, did you get out?

Got out Sat, Sun and Mon...Hope to fish more in the comming weeks. Warmin up and tuning some tackle.

I know bottom fishing from a boat is not a lot of guys cup of tea but the fluke and seabass at Lucus is nothing short of outstanding. Bigass seabass and decent fluke. On the boat ride way there we ran into a school of bonito and then spanish. Its been a hell of a fluke year for us.
Fish the beach this morning....nothing. Worked norton to wasque. Looked like the fleet was at the hooter...should have been boat fishing today...ocean was F L A T. Would have been a great offshore day.

I squeezed in an afternoon as best I could and I'm glad I did as it was a fun one. I had great action on my big grub, a dozen or more keepers and a handfull of blues. I was bummed when I saw it was 4:30 and I had to blow out of there to go let my sisters dogs back out and go back to my house sitting. I could have had a ball as they were really feeding when the tide got going after the turn.

yuppie, indeed, ricky, i fished myself this weekend to hardcore. i got skunked on saturday three times a day. and i went out with bill and juls (they are good fishing si-bais!) on boston harbor and quincy bay. i caught two blues on the white shad and a teaser rig, but lost the shad and blues. and i went to sportsman's den and had it weight and it's a 8 lbs fish! but the most important thing is that i learned A LOT from bill and juls. JohnR, you are right about them being the best teachers. Thanks, JohnnyR.

Talking

Interesting stuff on Narragansett Bay over the weekend:

More tiny bait than you could ever imagine, who knows what it is, but the water is full of it.

Bass that are slapping away along the shore, but won’t take an eel or a small swimmer, is that because the wind and tide won’t cooperate and feed them in the direction they want?

31” Weakfish, beautiful fish and they pull like mad.

Little tunas working bait, sounds like rain. Interesting thing the bait flys out of the water, but the fish stay out of site. Popping up all around the boat, 6” yellow Ledgerunner passes safely through the middle.

Blues working bait like being machine shop they make so much noise. Up and down all morning. The Captain HATES them so much he won’t even drive over 50 yards to get in casting range. In retaliation one volunteered to sacrifice itself to steal the Captains hat, luckily the Captain was quick enough to get it back before it sank.

A Friday night on a long weekend on the new moon and not another boat on the water ?????????

Had a great time fishing with a Great Guy. If Clamdigger ever asks if you want to fish with him, you are in for a treat, fish or no fish it’s about living life and having a good time.

Paddled the yak from Pleasure Beach to Harkness (CT) Sun morning. Just as I was about to turn around at the end of Harkness I got my first and only strike of the day (5 hrs). It was a 29 1/2" stripa'! Only my 3rd keeper ever.

Nice morning!

Tight Lines,
Rob

Got out Sunday afternoon, spent the night in Newburyport and went looking for footballs on Monday. Lots of bluefish on Sunday out in front of Hampton and Seabrook, though I quit chasin em after a couple. Monday, I couldn't find any tuna out to Jeff's Ledge, though I caught and cut the line on a 9' blue shark.

I had several shots at these damn things with no luck myslef. I had my 12# IGFA spinning rig with a long floro leader (15#), tied direct to several different lures...I could not get a strike. Tried, a pimple, hammer, megabait jig (my fav), d. #^&#^&#^&#^& green and a cast master and nothing! not even a bumb.
I now have loaded my new cast net on board and plan to catch the bait and throw live bait at the school one will have a razor sharp hook in it...maybe that will work.

It was hard to believe I could not induce a strike...these are tricky fish.

In my experience using poppers at night does not produce.
I was using a swimmer right in front of their noses, granted it was dark. But they never bothered to switch lures...just kept pluggin and caught nuttin.

Fished Sunday and Monday, started at the fishtails and went west. Found the fish at the dip on Sunday. A few fish during the night on saturday night. All in all a good trip, but I wish we could have stayed a little longer, but we had to be back by 5 PM.

Fished four nights in a row and had my best stretch of surf fishing this season. Over 30 bass and a dozen or so blues. Bass up to 38 lbs and none under 12 pounds (most 15-20). If you didn't have eels forget it, they wanted nothing but. They weren't everywhere but once I found them I had tight lines till I ran out of eels.

Unhappy

We fished Sunday and Monday, and the harbor was pretty quiet. Got a few small fish on the inside due to the NE wind on Sunday and the nice 5fter outside. Yesterday we got out side, to mark alot of fish they just weren't playing with the artificial!!!
came back inside late in the afternoon and got on a nice size school of bass and blues at Wally and we were the only ones around. BC and I hook up to 2 nice doulble Blue;s and got spotted by one loney boat. Too bad the guy was clueless. he came charging into the fish, put them down 2 times and it was all over. Wasn't too happy about that!!!!!!! But what do you want from those weekend warriors!!!

No stuck in traffic and did get out. Camped at Burlingame Friday through Monday morning. Fished Watch Hill and Sugar Friday, Saturday and Sunday a.m for a few blues and bass, then fluked off the pick house, picking up enough for a nice campside dinner each time out. Spent the afternoons anchored up on the inside of Napatree where the kids could go swimming.

Left camp and trailored the boat over to Old Saybrook at 2:00 a.m. Monday morning to meet my brother and nephew and got out for a few bass to 39 inches. My wife was a good sport in packing up the campsite while I was fishing Monday a.m.

What was forecasted as a rainy weekend turned out to be great.
