Niiiiiice photo, Krispy - thanks!

It's really neat to see a photo of the fish with his brother-in-law Karl who - from Church's own account - was instrumental in taking that bass. I spent a lot of time in small skiffs rowing as a kid and really appreciated that aspect of the story -

Thanks for the kind words, Chris - we've got some real interesting stuff we're working on now - shoot me a PM sometime if you're back in the area, our house is just 3 blocks north of the Edge -

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.

Will do Crafty and thanks for the offer - next trip for sure! During the winter, I love doing road trips from the Worcester area. Get clearance from the family unit and make a day out of it (sometimes they come).

This trip I hit the Power Plant for some fishing (skunked), CMS, Edwards (closed), the Handy Lunch for some eggs and baked beans, SWE and then Quaker Lane on the way home. Can you tell I had some Xmass cash to burn!

Probably one of my favorite parts of the story - do you think Karl really said that or did they clean it up for the readership in 1913?

Don't know for sure Crafty, i would like to believe that the men in those times were true gentlemen and sportsmen as thats how they were portrayed in all the stories in the outdoor books and magazines i read in the 40's -50's.

However.my Dad was the greatest gentleman i ever knew but, "he worked in profanity like an artist worked in oils and clay". " For cats sake" i don't know for sure!

I like that one....

Crafty, I wonder if the Allen House, would let you reproduce that photo of Mr. Church and his Brother-in-law, it is a nice shot.

Good find, Chris!
