Clammer's right too - I usually see it on a dead calm morning at slack, then followed by a sheen rising on the water which I always thought was the released milt.

Right after that the tog seemed to feed pretty actively -

Since tog aren't known to smoke I guess the next best thing after mating is a nice sandworm...

and as far as spawning & spring fishing / I fish very few rock piles if any // mussels beds yes / but I ahve a few spot that are sans , sand , sand ,,

the best day I can remember having // we had soooooooo many fish in the fish bags that the old Portuguese fisherman use to use that we could not get the boat out of the water // we were fishing crystal clean water / straight sand //I don,t think we lost one rig to a hangup///

ya can forget everything I just said in the fall //

oh /did I say I never use crabs in the spring // no rocks ,no structure , nooooo chogies // no need for crabs //// plus they are spawing & the mouths are soft compared to the fall // worms & mussels will out fish crabs in the long run // as long as your not on rock piles ><,..,

Seriously though, is the meat soft or mushy from the spawn in the spring? I only have experience with fall/winter tog.

I use large quohogs as bait (cut in half) , a 1/0 "pacific bass" hook catches them good, and if a flounder happens along, that hook will catch them too.

Now tell me do these fish count? Were they caught on the boat or from shore can you tell? Or did I just jump in the boat for the picture? Can't tell can you? So I guess all fish count then Goose knows
