hmmm... very interesting article in last months Cape Business about the Goose.
After reading that, and the direction the current owner said he had in mind for the store, this can only be good news... if the right party buys it.
That figure include the R.E.?
He can keep the kayaks.

In the old days that was the shop to do business with, along with my old friend MacMin Reed of course. I go in there now only when there is a sale on ( like the late fall 3 plugs for the price of two thingie). It used to be that no matter where you were in fishing season you could walk around in your waders all day long as did all the other fishermen. Breakfast at Nonny's or Capn' Elmers, Angelo's Market, the Goose etc., no one thought twice about it. Now you walk into the Goose with waders on and they look at you funny as you track mud all over the carpet. Carpet in a tackle shop? The bait Shack is the only place where you are most welcome to walk in with muddy/sandy waders and no one gives it a second thought. Oh yeah, and no Van Stals at the Bait Shack either, I like that too!

The Goose is cooked. Karl, Let's buy it and make it into a real tackle shop with an attached Liquor store. Bait and booze, the perfect combo!

Why even try.........

Throw in some adult videos and you might have an award winning combination

I have been buying mostly six inch sluggos there the last couple years because they have them in bulk. The prices on plugs just keep going up every year there. They definetely aren't catering to the local fisherpersons. I wanted a dozen of the kalin jigheads they usually have out loose in the bins but the bin for the size I wanted was empty. They had a bulk bag of one hundred or so in the size I wanted and I asked if it was ok to break into it. Nope can't do that. Saving that for someone to come in and drop a 100.00 for it. Huh? So you would rather save it on the chance one guy is going to happen in and buy a hundred when you could satisfy multiple customers by opening it now. Couldn't you tell the guy who wants a 100 to come back in a couple days when you get another and take some of the loose ones in the mean time? Where's the service there? This has actually happened to me more than once in the last couple of years.

This is why I would rather give my business to shops who appreciate it like M&D's!

Goose Hummock is situated on some prime real estate in an ideal location.

Guys fishing Orleans and Chatham - go to Goose.

Guys going to Race Point and points in between up Route 6 - very easy to stop by Goose first.

It'll be a sad day if it gets turned into something that is not a tackle shop anymore. Best selection of bombers on the East Coast (Red Top is #2 in that regard IMHO).

Wonder if business will suffer this year due to high gas prices (=fewer tourons to drop cash there).

As a kid

I remember ogling all the plugs in their packages as a 6 or 7 year old kid 45 years ago when I first went into Goose Humock. Like weewee says it is probably the best real estate in Orleans. Just far enough off the rotary and it provides parking and is on the water also. I wealk in there about fifteen years ago and spotted the guy who sold me my first surfboard at the G & S shop further up route 6 almost to Orleans center. Jesse Kitkarth (sic) was his name. We rekindled an old frienedship. Of course it was next to the DQ. I don't if thats still there. Across the street was Cranberry Cove fast food/mini-golf/pitch & putt golf area where I worked for a summer. But back to the GOOSE. I remember equating the shop with the Rock Hudson movie where he was an Abacrombie & Fitch sporting goods salesman and that he was a supposed fishing expert. The old Goose was that nice.

Arrow Swimmer

DQ is there, but not officially part of the chain anymore, altho ya can still get DQ stuff there
Cranberry Cove minigolf pitch and put,, bulldozed, now a papa gino super stop and shop built on top of (what used to be) the big Cranberry Bog (try filling in one of them nowadays...).. there is a mini golf around the corner near Wendys and Freindlys.
Surf shop of some kind still selling boards in between the Goose and the old DQ
Jesse... some ruff times for him... last I heard he's living in FLA.
Heck of a nice guy, like a lot of the old locals, had to split... I'm on the list too, we all are, if ya ain't a gizzilionaire, but gonna hang on as long as I can.
Lot more than meets the eye to this sale... a lot of "variables" and there have been some aggresive approaches to other local business's to aquire the property... but like one wealthy local merchant, who was approached said.... 3.9 million.. averages out to about a buck per headache...
Get a tin boat, dead low tide, pull around back of the retaining wall... one look tells a million stories... that plus the drain pipe from the old bog goes right through the middle of the Goose property, is now handling the parking lot runoff, plus lord knows what else, from the stop and shop, and papa gino plaza.... headaches
Swimmer, I know the movie of which you speak.... I dunno....
