Let's figure out when (before or after Xmas) and what boat. Anyone know what boats we can rent? If we get an entire boat, we're in good shape...

John,
I was a mate for a few seasons a long time ago and have been a pretty serious Head Boat regular for over 15 years. As you know I have chartered a few boats in my years and though I would reccommend any of the following boats, I will list them in my order of preference.
1...Helen H out of Hyannis...More money, Big Fish, High Tech, Cutting Edge,
2...Yankee Fleet out of Gloucester...Overall, the best over many years
3...Captain Johns out of Plymouth...1st class for inshore/Stellwagon Bank Trips trips, easy to deal with
4...Francis Fleet in Galillee...Rates righ there with Yankee Fleet, only 4th because of the log drive from my house
There are many other top notch boats around, these are just my favorite that run in winter
I'm in whenever as long as I do not have a more importan commitment whn you set the date.

Passed-up a day at the ditch to go Cod fishing. Plenty of fish along an area known as "Stone Ledge" about 8 miles east of Scituate, MA. We arrived early and caught cod and haddock to 15 lbs. We stayed there until Capt John boats showed up. Went east a few miles and started again. Fished until 1400. The three of us each brought home our 10 fish limit.
We did see three diffferent schools of "footballs" come sweeping by.

Better check the new regs, from what I heard last
night at our fishing club meeting, the limit is now 5 fish. (total of cod and/or haddock).
I think they said it went into affect in late Sept. or early Oct.
Kind of a bummer when the cod fishing gets good, we can't take as many.
CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THIS NEW LIMIT ????

Van - those regs are correct...
OK, let's try this again - boats near Plymouth : ??????? While I would love to go north of Bahstin, many are coming from Rhody & CT which makes for an even tougher haul for a 6am sail...
Thanks

I sent an e-mail to Capt. John asking what the december/january schedule is (their website didn't say), and if there is a discount for 20 or more people. They do have a deal where you get one free person for every 5 paying.
I'll post when they reply.

Capt John's was quick to respond, here's what they said:
Hello-Our last trip is on Dec 1st from 7am-3pm.We will start up again in
April Thank you
They didn't bite on the discount, but there website does have $1 coupons.
The Pats play on Turkey day, so Sunday December 1st is a good for me.
I'm also all for a biggest fish pool, say $10 a head????

Fishsmith - sounds very, very interesting. I'll need to check with thebetterhalf and make sure that's not a previously scheduled event... but very interesting...
Who would be interested in that?

I would love to go on a Cod trip! Sounds like fun, although December 1st is probably a bad day since holiday traffic is going to really suck. Isn't Thanksgiving the worst holiday for travel? I know I will be hating life driving back from Philly in traffic on that Sunday. Just a thought.

S.O.t.B - Howya doing? It's funny that you mention that, 10-12 years ago on a Sunday after T-giving, I spent 14 hours traveling from the Key Bridge just outside of Balt'more to just over the Tappan Zee Bridge into NY. Only took 3 hours to get from there to Boston... That sucked...
Checked the schedule and I'm in!
Anyone know how many they fit on these boats? I know they are bigger than the A.L...
OK - I got a question for all you interested in the trip - if we go, it's $35 per head. For every 5 people that go, the 6th one is for "free". Would it be ok to dontate the "free" to the site for the bills? So if we get a bunch of people going, it would raise a couple bucks for the site costs too...
Thanks...
BTW - Fishsmith, thanks for the legwork on this - I'm going to call them today to confirm a couple more things...

No sweat John, I talked to the warden and she gave me Dec. 1st off to go fishing, so I'm in.
To raise some $$ for the site, if everyone attending brought in some fishing gear with a value of at least $5, we could have a raffle at $5 a ticket to win the all the booty. Just a thought.
