I got to see Springsteen at the Palladium in NYC in 76 or 77. Also saw him at the Stanley in Pittsburgh I believe in 78. All of them were incredible shows and closest thing I have ever seen to something like a revival meeting as the entire crowd was going out of control. I saw Joan Armatrading at the Beacon once around the walk on ladders album and it was incredible from the lights to a super hot band I was floored. I do not know whether I had low expectations going in but she was tops and played great lead guitar on both acoustic and electric.
First time I saw Richard Thompson play electric at the bottom line was great. Allmans are always top even this years run at the Beacon was amazing. They are so good you kind of expect a level of greatness and rarely do they disappoint. The current band may be better than the original line up.
by far ,,, Janis Joplin ,, Merriweather Post Pavillion in Marryland when I was 15 . She was wild .. She drank a big bottle of Southern Comfort during her performace . I was out of my seat and pressed against the stage ..What a job she did on "Ball and Chain" .. There some deep blues there brother .. Her voice was so sweet and raspy at the same time .

for you eddie.....
wish I could have been there to see that....
Me and my bud saw Jainis at one of the Newport Festivals when she was at the top of her game - and yup, she had a bottle of SC stashed behind the amps, and between songs she'd reach back and take a hit off it like it was soda pop
Dammmnnn, that girl had a tank - whew.
She was excellent with Big Brother behind her and yeah, she absolutely wailed.
Another sad case of too young, too soon.

Has to be J Geils - Is there anyone who had more energy than Peter Wolf on stage? The Pawtucket cops had to drag him off stage at the Leroy Concert Theater at 12:30 am - concert curfew was 11pm.
Gabriel when he was with Genesis in the 70s was a great show.
Zappa in Paris.
Queen in Barcelona.
Still have the ticket stubs.

I saw the Dave Matthews Band at MSG in 1997. Great show.
The best show was the Allman Brothers at the Beacon Theatre in Manhattan about 4 years ago. I saw them on their 7th consecutive day and they were still tight as anything.

Saw Joe Jackson there....another great show......MTV killed his carreer, camera wasn't very flattering of him.
Saw Aerosmith there on new years eve once too....

I saw Joe Jackson at the Somerville Theater last year. Small venue, only a bass and drums for backup, but an awesome show.
I've seen most all the names already mentioned, but my most memorable is for the amount of enjoymenmt of the event - Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes at UMass spring concert in 1977. The final show of a long day of bands. They really cooked and interacted with the audience for great time.
Also at UMass - Aerosmith at Curry Hicks Cage in 1974. Small venue, to say the least. The entire spring concert was moved to the Cage from the Stadium because of rain. They were just hitting it big. I think 'Dream On' had just made the charts.
Great memories.

I was at the Aerosmith Show. I think "Seatrain" opened up for them.

thats crazy Tyler. i was at that Rage show in Worcester back in 99 too. we were sitting in the balcony and everyone started rushing the stage so i was like F this, i'm going down there. it was friggin nuts, security guards were pummeling dudes. somehow i managed to break through and almost made it all the way to the stage. it was friggin crazy, everyone jumping up and down. definitely one of the sickest shows i've ever been to.....
i can't even begin to think of THE best show i've ever seen. seen a lot of outstanding shows from '97-'06. if i could pick 2 it would be the 2 nights that the disco biscuits played in queens at the amazura(i think thats what its called). craziest 2 days/nights of my life coupled with outstanding music...
Eric clapton during his blues tour, jimmy vaughn opened up for him and at the encore they both played together, eric clapton's hand is better than whole bands
Best shows I've been to have to be Pantera in 2001 and Clapton in 2001 too.

Godsmack and Metalica.
Front row Center stage. Close as anyone could ever get...
A friend of a friend was in the metalica fan club and got us "good" seats. When we showed up to the Fleet center front door, they had us go to this special office. We thought the tickets were fake and we were in deep do-do. They said there's a problem the stage is too big so the seats you got aren't there. But we made some "extra" seats you might like..Pffttt... It was on the fleet center Ice and everyone was behind where the glass usually is We were in folding chairs right along the stage. where the ice would be. The friggin heat from the pyros could melt your eybrows. Unreal!!
Two of my friend got to go back stage and load up on autographs and schwag as well
Pantera was the best live band Ive ever seen, hands down.
Marilyn Manson was definitely a cool one too, on the antichrist tour. I think I was the only one that didnt have makeup and nylons on at the strand that night. Quite the scene

I have to agree with Professor M that there are things my memory just will not recall but then again, there are things that I just will never forget as well. I am grateful that life had me work on landsdowne street then later to work clubs from Boston to Somerville. I also knew a lot of people in the radio business as well. I got to see many many bands and have seens some great performances.
My personal favorite live band is BS and The E Street Band which I have seen thirty something times. I'll never forget Bruce bringing Peter Wolf on stage to lead the crowd in a sing along of Dirty Water during the second Fenway Show. The more recent shows have not been as good as the legendary shows of the Darkness on the Edge of Town tour.
I saw a Queen's Command Performance at Wembley Stadium in London when on a "bender" with my cousin...Pink Floyd, Dark Side of The Moon...cover to cover, complete with exploding cesna....incredible show and I was but an out of control teenager and remember only so much.
I grew up in Allston and saw Aerosmith at Molly's and remember us local kids being let into the basement of the Jim Did It Sign Company to watch the Cars practice. I knew Terry and Dale Bozio of Missing Persons and met a lot more performers working at a few clubs in Somerville (Johnny Dees, Somerville Theatre, etc etc.)
I have seen Prince on a few occasions and for musical ability that little man is way above average. His guitar work stands right there with any on Larry's list and he platys just as hard...Dance music my arse.
Back in the Day Earth Wind & Fire was just off the hook at a club show and there is something special about the right mix of hallucinogenics and a ticket to see Parliament Funkadelic with whatever special guest they had lined up that week. I also fondly remember the Halloween party at the Hot Tin Roof...Entrain was building their local reputation and knew how to work a crowd.
So many shows...no wonder I go to Narcotics Anonymous Meetings!!!!!
Boston, Bad Company, Kiss and many more at the Cape Cod Colleseum.
"It is impossible to complain and to achieve at the same time"--Basic Patrick (on a good day)
I had alot of fun getting stomped in the pit when Green Day played at the Worcester Centrum about 13 years ago. That was the most "active" show I ever went to.
Jeff Beck about 9-10 years ago.
Zep at the gardens 2 times.
Yes, Stones
Mahavishnu was interesting
too many to remember
I like Jeff Beck
Bette Midler - lots of times, starting with 1973 and her Clams on the Half Shell Revue at the Orpheum - love her and she goes for a good 2hours non stop.......
"Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after." - Henry David Thoreau
Yes and Jethro Tull 1971 at the Hampton Beach Casino. It was the first concert for Yes in the US. The " Yes Album" was released shortly after this concert and "Aqualung" had been released before this show.
Due to the Casino being overrun by the crowds the State Police were called in( some were on horseback) for crowd control. I was one of the first people in before the masses crashed the doors.
It was the last concert they had there for many, many years.

Can't just pick one. Here are my most memorable.
Pink Floyd,The Wall-Nassau Collisium-81/82?
The Clash-Shea Stadium-Early 80's
The Kinks/Ian Hunter-Music Inn-Early 80's [Dad Fisherman-Right on with the energy]
All the J.Geils shows.
All the Springsteen shows.
Neil Young [Greendale]-Mohegan Sun
Rush-Mohegan Sun[Man,can they still rock!!]
man you older guys got to see some great shows.when Rock was still Rock.i can't even imagine MC5 and Jimmy in the same building.
i can't compare but the best show i have seen would have to be the first Lollapalooza at Great Woods.NIN,Janes Addiction,Henry Rollins just to name a few.
Being an old fart I've seen them all..Dylans 1st elec. concert w/the Band at Symphony Hall, Beatles at Suffolk Downs , Hendrix at the Garden, Jeff Beck Band w/Rod Stewart on vocals & J.Tull as opening "unknown" band at Symp. Hall ...but I have to pick these 3 tied for best. 1st was the original FleetwoodMac w/Peter Green at the BostonTeaParty...PG;the most emotionally expressive player I've ever heard and a major influence in my playing career and hands down the best live band entertainers...ever; 2nd.. The Who at the Music Hall for their Who's Next Tour. The whole building was pitch dark while the synth intro to Won't Get Fooled Again (?)played. When Townsend hit that 1st thunderous chord and Daltry let out that primal scream "Yeeeeaaa" the stage lights went on and Daltry and Townsend were about 4 ft. in the air doing their trademark mic swing and windmill...freeking unbelievable...you could "feel" the sound..my ears have been ringing ever since. And last but not least BB King @ Northeastern Univ. in 69. Most of the crowd was from the Roxbury community and I was sitting with my buddy in the balcony.. 2 token white boys.. in the middle of about 50 very enthusiastic black ladies. These ladies were standing on their chairs dancin and screamin"Tell Your Tale BB" and we were caught up in the moment with them..it looked like the crowd in that Ralph Machio/Steve Vai "duel with the devil" in the Crossroads movie. BB did 4 encores..they wouldn't let him off the stage. He was throwing guitar picks, his tie..everything but Lucille..out into the crowd. When he came back on after the 3rd encore he said he didn't have a pick left and people started throwing em back at him. He picked one up off the stage and ripped into his final tune...40 years ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday.
