The Outer Cape

Just wondering if this is going on all over, or just out here?

We are having the best beach fishing in years - bass up to low 30 pounds, too many to even mention in the 20 pound range - and on most all of the ocean beaches from Wellfleet through Provincetown.

On some days it's just a few folks here and there catching a few bass, and then on other days, like the last three in a row, it's massive beach blitzes chasing tinker mackeral, sand eels, and herring up to the beaches.

The boats are slamming them as well, in normal 30 ft depths but also in deeper water, like over 100 ft. The tuna bite has been crazy too! Wood End, Peaked Hill, and obviously spots on the bank.

This has got to be one of the best yet - elsewhere too?

The bird nest on the Pole Line Road is the harbinger of impending doom. It's a death march after they close that in about a week.

Why even try.........

Fished the last 3 hours of dusk hitting Truro and p-town beaches. Huge surf to say the least. Found some clean spots, but no love. The parking lot at race point had the biggest waves and the most weed, but lots of birds working offshore...

Sorry I pissed off anyone, just making a statement on the foreseable future out there is all, problem is though fish were caught at other beaches the best was out where you needed 4wd to get to.

And these problems are in our control not natures, fisherman never were as good at organizing and being represented as say... the nature conservancy, The Audobon Society and Sierra club to name a few. Nature has nothing to do with it.

Now, I was out in that neighborhood 5 nights in the last week and a 1/2 and in several different places. My left hand is hamburger (which used to be from going down fishes mouths to retrieve eels from gullets, throats and stomachs but I had not seen the light) from going in for needlefish but it's a happy pain and to have this occuring in my favorite place to fish on the planet, well it's been worth the wait.

Hey BackBeach! Mike the summer wind hasn't been needed. Ask the Senior Angler.

Why even try.........

Steve, et all,
Really glad things have picked up for you guys on those beaches - I just know how much you guys love fishing there. Catch some for me.

I know, he told me. Problem for me is the required time and distance to get out there makes it impossible for me to participate in that fishery any longer. I'd be doing five hours of driving for three hours of fishing.
Its great to hear the productivity has been good. My favorite fishing out there used to be right around now throwing 7" superstrike needles up at the traps, race and hatches.

It's not the bait
