Either the editor of this show was drinking, or they want to purposely get PETA bent out of shape.

I thought it was going to be more interesting being local. While it was cool seeing the large tuna brought on board, I was turned off by a lot of the show as others have mentioned. The baby sword and the gaff-and-released mako were a little much for me. Looks like I'll have to stick to re-runs of deadliest catch and the old ladie's 10 different real housewives shows.

I only eat pond raised swordfish.

As far as indiscriminate fisheries, put the following in order from worst to less.

Long lining, Gillnet, Bottom Dragging.

My guess would be
Gillnet, Bottom dragging, Long lining

Guy being interviewed on wzlx Sunday morning talk radio is some guy who has dedicated his life to trash in the ocean. He says one of the biggest things with them is long liners. In a storm I guess these guys lose the lines. They end up tangling something and causing huge "garbage patches" in the ocean.

Just thought it was an interesting point given the talk of this show.

as far as TV goes, i thought it was pretty good compared to the rest of the crap that is on. i'm not going to pile on the guys for trying to make a living, whether i agree with it or not. and by the way, that mako would taste good on the grill.

Awecomeon now...you all know that it was the rec fishermen than wiped out swordfish, cod, bass, fluke, herring bunker and every other species in trouble...Comm fishermen have quota's they can do no damage ... you should know better.

Indiscriminate methods of fishing are obsolete and should be stopped world wide. But the chances of this happening are slim to none. Comm fisherman have the very attitude spouted by the clip of that show.."I don't care who is working against you we are going to get ours" (even if it is the last fish in the sea)

I have been watching and have found some of it intriguing. The best part was the crew on board the Eagle Eye got about 25,000 each. Then they flash to Chompers wife handing out checks and those guy got 800 each. Now I am no business man but she said she had to borrow money to pay her crew, and their boat hauled in the 2nd most catch, either someone lives high on the hog, or needs remedial math

If his crew were smart they would tell him to pound sand especially with all the crap they put up with from him..

I saw a rerun of Swords yesterday or the day before. I found it to be ridiculous. On Linda Greenlaw's boat they lose a bunch of gutted sword carcasses because the boat rolls and they have the gunnel door open. If I'm fishing for money I'm figuring our a way to secure my catch. Just seemed like the show was too contrived to make it compete with "The Deadliest Catch".

No boat, back in the suds.

I wasn't bashing the captain, Linda Greenlaw. She has a huge reputation and deservedly so. I was bashing the producers of the show who made her and the other boat captains look like a bunch of fools. They didn't portray the hard life that a commercial fisherman has. They seems to think that by showing a bunch of guys jumping around yelling "this is what it's about" they were doing justice to a hard working bunch of regular people.

BTW, I would never bash the commercial guys. I worked with a bunch of guys who were commercial deep water lobstermen and other who worked draggers. I was a logger at the time and use to trade firewood for lobster and tile fish (when they were fishing tiles).

I watched the show for a few hours the other night,
It was OK , not sure if I will watch again,

I have not eaten a Sword Fish in over 22 years , I thought everyone was boycotting them? (Hell I am doing my part)

In the good old days they were stacked up like cords of wood on the Vineyard, and they sold the sword's inside for a few bucks as I remember

I know that when Greenlaw was arrested in Canada she had the camera crew on board with her. She says her gear was swept into the illegal fishing grounds by the current and she was merely going back to retrieve her gear.

Anyway, I wonder if they are going to show any footage from the arrest. Probably not, but that would be pretty cool.

Well if people realized how tight the regs are for gillnet and and longline they may look at it different but hey ya know as long as miff and biff get there fish when they joy ride in the benz thats all that matters right??? Fishin commercialy is no where near or ever will be what it was... I know first hand thanks to family and my own experience... the sad fact is no one will be able to complain soon... Our great government that can mess up a one car funeral or wet dream is gonna be running it and making it corporate... So hope yall like fishing for nada.... Not for nothin the government run or overseeing things scares me... LOOK AT TR#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&G feds deregulated freight in the 70s and since the only thing that has gone up is fuel. truck cost, insurance cost,... freight still in the toilet for pricing... sad sad sad...
