Wins & Losses & a Defeatist Attitude:

Just today the recreational community leadership's license legislation has moved out of Natural Resources, Environment and Agriculture and into the Ways and Means Committee intact. I guess we should say to hell with it and tell Beacon Hill to just take the money and pay for the big dig. We don't need that access office anyway.

At the beginning of this year one of the three votes from MA at the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (manages Striped Bass) was Mr Vito Calomo who is a hard core kill and sell every last fish commercial advocate. When Rep Anthony Verga of Gloucester lost his reelection bid a great deal of effort was made and Gov Deval Patrick appointed Rep Sarah Peake of P-town who is very concerned with many of our issues. I guess we should call the the Governor all pissed off.

Another clear win is the recent pogie boat issue. A group of constituents complained and both myself and Chuck Casella went to work. Should Jules call the EPO's and tell them we know those commercial guys are going to win anyway so don't bother issuing the fines. Should we tell the Gov't officials who may or may not have made policy calls to truely look at our issues that they did not serve us well.

There was more beach open this year than in the past. It has nothing to do with birds, just interpretation of regulation.

We won a bunch this year. It would be nice if when we ask you guys gave us as much support as grief.

So go ahead and display your stickers. The internet boards will remain the litle kids table as far as clubs go until they learn to play with the adults. The other side of the first amendment is that you face the consequences of free speach.

Something many still have not learned.

"The Cheerleader Rule"

You're right, Patrick and I stand corrected. That sticker," Piping Plovers Taste Like Chicken" may be as effective as "You Enviros Suck". It just causes them to redouble their efforts against, what must be in their opinion, a crude and savage people.
Another that that has crossed my mind (briefly) is that we are actually working toward the same end albeit via different routes. And the kicker is this: they don't work for us. Why not? Lack, on our part of constructive effort. Just nasty slogans. Sure we have the right to speak our minds and use black humor, but what does it get us? What does it say about us to those on the other route? It pretty much says that we'd like to eat their little birds or pop them like bubble wrap.
Again, we want the same thing, the preservation of open beaches. It can and will be done with or without us. If it's to be done with us, we're just gonna have to lose some of the" in your face attitude".
What's funny to me (and it is) is just plain offensive to others, so I keep it to myself.
You younger guys can't imagine what we've lost for beach. You also can't imagine how many more people want to drive it. But that's another whole issue. But part of the reason for closings.

He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.

I think a bumper sticker is a label that links the message it portrays to the driver.. People form opinions based on many subconcious levels and I'm just saying that negative messages like that does no favors to the csuse

I think Patrick is mostly right. There have been some vistories, not as many as we need and not as many as we could get if we acted together on this stuff. Instead we chuckle and riddicule and potificate from our Soapboxes and in the end we don't do a hell of a lot about it.

Nobody (ok, very few people but I don't who the hell they are) works harder and goes to more meetings than him in our area.

WE joke, and chuckle, and pay lip service to things but WE as a group really don't do a hell of a lot.
