You guys must have the stink on you as bad as BackBeach does. I had a building committee meeting last night that adjourned at 8:45pm, I drove the 40 miles from there to the beach I have been fishing, got there just as the tide was in it's first hour of the ebb, one other guy guarding a baited rod in it's holder, he was fishing the edge of a known hole so I went to the other side. The fishing wasn't fast and furious but in 45 minutes I had a 25lb fish, a 16 lb fish and one 24incher.
Just as I was landing the 25lb fish two guys walked in and mugged me on either side. they were casting sled dog eels while standing no more that 15 feet each side. One guy kept asking "you on again Bro?" First off I ain't your "Bro" and secondly your fishing etiquette sucks. I could have gone on but after a13 hours work day, three fish on the beach I decided to pack it in.
The moral of the story is that the fish are there still. The bar structure has drastically changed in the last week but the bait is thick. And though the temp in the parking lot was near the mid 30's, standing in the surf was balmy, must have been a 20 degree temp difference in 150 yards from shore to lot.
The fat lady hasn't sung yet. They are moving. The winds might kill your attempts the next few days if NOAA is right (yeah, and wrestlings for real) but the fish are still there, not as big but still there.

Why even try.........

As Tatto bob has stated, tough sledding here at Plum Island... last Thurday, I spent 5 hours dragging a plug through the drop in the mouth of the river... for my efforts, I got cold fingers, stiff knees , a runny nose 5 bass between 10-15lbs and 3 bait sized blue fish... average night this fall has been just about 5 fish but it's been tough, slow, COLD work... and for the most part, I've been the only idiot fishing..that same night I fished the turn and first hour of the rise with eels.. nary a tap... not even a dink...back at the dock, a smallpod of trout sized schoolies were popping YOY herring and shad drops behind the party boats.. but their numbers are far from what I normaly see this time of year...
Sunday, I was scouring the horizon at day break... a few terns circling, gannets did thier thing.. but there were no fish under them.. only sand eels... at 10:00 AM I called it a season... Last Tuesday, I had a decent pod of 20lb class bass north of the boarder, but it's a long cold ride, this weekends forecast weather should send them on their way to the cape for Flap to beat on... as for.. my boat is witerized and covered.. I've dusted off my lathe and the "next" season has begun...
Anytime I have to dress like this to fish.. I ought to be standing on ice.. not on the deck of a boat!

talk about tough...I am sick and can't even fish...going out in this cold and fishing would probably give me pneumonia.
Hope there are still some left next week....
