I dont think anyone is trying to give him grief. Just seems like fair warning to me.
Talking fish with anybody (outside of your circle) is a dangerous game when your a surfcaster. Posting pictures is even more dangerous.

Striper haven you fish hard man I am impressed I love to read your post and see the pics. I am fortunate enough to fish with some of the best guys on this site and I understand what it means to not blow up a spot that I was lucky enough to be taken to and educated on how to fish. Please don’t be discouraged as timing is everything, and spot poachers may not be as successful as you. Keep it up I am rooting for you to get that 50

This guys having a great year, posting pics of fish with rocks in the background and you have some sense of the area he fishes and he is getting grief for it? There are many, many pics from some of the respected anglers out here of fish in the canal and NO ONE gives them any grief. Year and after year. Give it a rest.
|
Yours statements condradict themselves. You start by saying what a nightmare it was that you posted a pic because people wanted info and to follow you. Then you say that it's unfair that he's getting some grief for it. He's just getting grief because people don't want to see him have the experience you had.
Surf spots and the canal are two different things and for the most part the "respected anglers" pics show up weeks after the fish hit the scale or are released.
I hope the dude nails a 50. Just think he might want to worry a little about what info he is sharing. If my fishing partner was posting this stuff we wouldn't be on speaking terms right now.
Don't hate the playa, hate the game.

I know you guys mean well, but its a little overkill. if people want to share pics/stories, more power to them. Something tells me this guys not a rookie and knows what he is doing.

Keep the pics and reports coming, they're great. You might just want to delay the release by 2-3 weeks to keep the hounds off your trail or simply say you caught them in the canal. That's what I do.

Gotcha. Definitely misunderstood though I see where they were coming from. Not saying it's right. Just that if you have a group of guys and they know where each other is fishing and then one starts posting pics they're broadcasting where fish are without even trying to do it.
Basically, if everyone worried about themselves and didn't chase posts or reports this wouldn't be an issue but that's not how it is. The only way to remedy this is to keep your catch to yourself as it's happening. Everyone does there own thing and then share the results later. Don't have to talk about when and where.
If we were all true veterans we would freeze any fish over 40lbs and then thaw them out in late November and take them into the surf for some photo ops, then post pics
You're right. This is overkill!!!!!

I have plenty for tonight, plus wood. Those were the little ones I felt bad for so I threw them into my retention pond full of big, hungry largemouths. They love em just as much as stripers do.

150 Qt. cooler used strictly for transporting, not storing. Storage tank is behind my porch. I only keep 2-3 dozen at a time since switching over to wood.
Sorry for the thread hijack...what was this about anyways?

I was joking about the pond your son was "stocking" with the eels. That would be the ultimate eel tank if you had a way to easily retrieve them.
I've been doing the opposite of you. I'm resorting to eels more than ever, although the fish still seem to like the wood and rubber better lately.

Got it, I'm brain dead so bear with me. Pond probably has hundreds of my old eels in it. If they ever go extinct you know where to find a few for cloning purposes.

Sauerkraut drowns his eels by fishing them where there are no fish, then throws them in the dumpster at his office. Now the church next door is sending him angry letters about the stench.
Made my week.

you dont need a VS to catch fish. I have a 8 year old 560 that has a bunch of sentimental value packed with y-z hybrid 25lb test, 50# mono leader 6/0 Gama. hook....all I need. Funny you mention that though...have a buddy of mine, well an acquaintance lets say, that bought a ZB...this guy would be couldn't catch a fish if life depended on it, but he wants to "look" the part.. I dont need to look the part, my $150 560 has caught me just as many fish than if I was fishing a ZB and VS that go for $900+. Yes, I have to break her down once a week but how long does that take...15 minutes. Too me its no big deal.
