It's a great area for kids, Spence. Town is easily walkable with all kinds of knick-knack stores. My kids loved the place. Jenn and I would go again in a minute.

Like Jackbass said Ashville is real nice ,and on the way you could hit, Philly, Gettysburg, DC, take the Blue Ridge Parkway to Ashville, then over to Cherokee where your kids could check out their heritage and horseback ride up into the Smokey Mts.

Went to Quebec last year, loved it. Stayed outside the wall, but ate inside every night, on the sidewalk. It was so cool.

We did Quebec City for 4 days, then came down to Maine Coast/Acadia for 3. Nice week. Kids and grownups too always seem to like Acadia
Caution: Do not go to Quebec City on St Jean the Baptiste weekend, like we did. That's Quebec National Day and a major league drunk fest.

Must be the overland ferry to Quebec City, most people go thru VT.

Think the route will be as such...
Day 1 - drive to Waterbury and stay with friends
Day 2 - drive to Quebec City
Day 3,4 - Quebec City
Day 5 - drive to Bar Harbor
Day 6 - Bar Harbor
Day 7 - drive home
Any must see on the way?
