As to 9/11/01, as do the Jews say of the Holocaust, never let us forget.........
I watched in horror as we all did. I reeled with anger and hate and still do for the people who did this and thier beliefs.
I miss the weeks following. For there was a tangible air of commnunity with us throughout the world. The playing of the Star Spangled Banner outside the gates of Windsor palace at the changing of the guard, the outpouring of support from every corner of the world and most of all, the sense of patriotism that was re-lit in the hearts of all americans. There was no color, creed difference, for a fleeting moment we were all Americans first, personalities, ethnicities and differences aside.
I was distraught and angry over the President's speech the day after at the Trade Center site. He was not inspiring nor did he really seem to convey an understanding of just how terrible the result of of what had happened there.
To me that place is now sacred ground. The real blood of martyrs was the blood of the innocents who lives were ended there and how the lives of those of who loved and cared them were forever changed.
How America in it's constitution and the freedoms that it gives and hopefully will give for centuries to come, had suddenly changed as a result of that freedom.
There and then it should have been delivered to the world, standing upon the choas and calamity of that place that even though our nose had been bloodied we were not scared nor were we about to play into the world that extremist terrorists, under thier convoluted and skewed view of thier religion and it's teachings. It should have been noted right then and there as bodies still layed uncovered in the twisted remains of those buildings that we wished to be part of the international community as a friend and ally in good times and bad but we also wish to be respected for our rights to live as we have in freedom. But woe to anyone who did or does not respect our rights as we respect thiers, if they don't respect us they will surely fear us as we will not be brought down.
Today that same man and his cronies in high office have made very poor choices in responding to the challenge that was 9/11/01. We have invaded a country that did not warrant it at the time and changed for the worse the lives of those innocents living there. We went after the wrong man and we pay for that in a quagmire in Iraq but we have paid as a world community in Spain, London, Bali, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Afghanistan and other countries as well. We have lost over 2000 brave American service men and women. Thier sacrifice continues.
9/11 was a chance to change the world and yet our government has through inept leadership has failed us and the world as a whole. The threat terror is still rampant and we lose respect daily. Government is still fraught with scandal, insider gains, big contracts and who loses?
The average citizen and the citizen soldiers. There is foriegn technology available for example in which 90% or better of rocket propelled grenades could be eleimanated after firing at our vehicles in Iraq saving hundreds of our brave soldiers lives. The army won't permit it use as it would cause Raytheon to loose part of it's contract for a new combat multi system it's developing for the army. Raytheon won't be ready to deliver until 2011. Israel has it available right now in September 2006. Hundreds of these things get launched at our people each week. The army won't allow it's use because raytheon's contract will be affected. How can the president or Secretary of Defense allow this? It's criminal.
Never forget 9/11, never let your children forget. Remember that day and remember the sacred ground it all happened on.

Actually, most kept their lips sealed to avoid retrobution.
Which is why the attacks on dissent by the Administration and it's attack squad are so against the American tradition.
