Just saw this this morning, truly terrible, shocking news -I'm stunned

I didn't know Steve well but had the opportunity to hear him speak at an MSBA meeting - the depth of his knowledge and personal experience was impressive as was his generosity in sharing it during his speaking engagements, his OTW articles and here at S-B

A real loss to the fishing community - my deepest condolences to his family and friends

Rest easy, Steve

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.

I was absolutely shocked when I got this news last night. I did not know Steve personally but those who did always spoke of him as a fine person and top fisherman. My sincere condolences to his family and his friends.

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

I have not known him on a personal basis, yet learned a great deal of practical information from his written work about the Cape and surfishing. Casually spoke to him at a MSBA event some time ago. He was a class person. Rest in Peace, Steve.

This is definitely sad news!!!

I met Steve approximately seven years ago at a Massachusetts show and he sat in the front row of my seminar lecture. I don’t know why…but he sure knew a lot! He was a very knowledgeable gentleman and giving at heart. We shared a few laughs and exchanged many ideas! I’ve also read many of his articles and he had what it takes to be a steward of our sport.

He will be sorely missed and my deepest condolences go out to the family and dear friends.

Steve, I am thinking of you my friend and I am wishing you all the best wherever you are. God Bless!!!

I too send my deepest condolences to the family and freinds. Although I've only met and spoke with Steve a couple of times, I know how wonderful of a person he was. Nothing but great things were ever said about him. My prayers to all that are close to him.

I was in NC at a gathering of beach buggy organizations and while having morning coffee I got the call. Since that moment I have felt as if I got punched in the gut and can't catch my breath.

My condolences to the Steve's wife, daughters and the F-mob, the rest of us can only imagine the pain you are going through and please know our community is here for you in any way we can be.

Steve was truely one of the more honest amongst us, and that is a ver rare quality. I will miss him for a very long time.

RIP Flap

Steve,
I always appreciated your answers to questions on old Gibbs plugs, your willingness to talk to fellow plug addicts at Plugfest, and your kind words about plug pics posted by those who will never learn 1/2 what you have already forgotten about the craft you loved. My deepest condolences to your family, friends, and brothers in all things striper.

You will be missed,

Jon
