Tips on cleaning a corroded spool

During my recent Cape soujourn I was given a Pflueger 2075 conventional that seems in pretty good shape. Can anyone recommend a way to clean a little corrosion off the spool without dismantling the reel? It doesn't appear to have great $$ value but it seems like something worth using sometime.

An old wise portagee a
Taught me the best trick for this. In a small plastic container add a bunch of regular powdered lemonade. Don't use diet. Add water... Enough to make a super sweet drink and soak the reel or spool for a day or two. It removes everything.

Tooth past also works well for cleaning off corrosion...

A good run is better than a bad stand!

Coke works well, but I wouldn't soak the entire reel in it.

Thanks. I think I can try a couple of these suggestions, although if my wife finds me brushing my reel's teeth or my reel soaking in a pitcher of lemonade, she may well have me committed.
