Who knew you could have this much fun?!

Having a lathe has already been one of the most enjoyable things I've ever received. Decided to see what else I could do on my lathe, so when my son decided he was gonna be Luke Skywalker for Halloween, I decided that every Jedi Master needs a light saber. It begins!!

The batch of pics is the light saber build from start to finish. After that I decided to try bottle openers, bluefish bats from mahogany and ash and a few prison shanks...ummm, I mean leather awls. lol Anyway, here they are.

the force is strong with this one! I used glow in the dark over the green, under the epoxy, so it will glow while he trick or treats!

bottle opener handles. Brown one is mahogany, and did a little carving with the dremil. Then back filled with wood putty to get 2 tone effect.

Wow, nice stuff. The light saber is awesome. Try to get some pics of your son with it glowing on Halloween and post em.

I will, but I tried taking a pic of it glowing in low light and it didn't come out too good. It's not too bright, the epoxy I think dulled it, but it still looks cool.

Neat stuff, I hope you guys hold onto that light sabre -- that's a great father/son life momento.

Is this bat a fish billy? Was wondering if the hole was for a wrist lanyard.

That's exactly what it is. I might actually make the hole just a little bigger so I can get some epoxy in there to make sure it's completely sealed, then put a leather strap through it.

you have to try lamps then Bowls
burls make the best bowls
but there's a whole separate science
to cure them for a non checked piece.

Oh god, that's all I need, a distraction from my distraction! lol. Nah, my plans are simple this winter....finish my dupe, make some templates, turn and burn some plugs, screw up, get pissed, do it all again and maybe end up with 1 or 2 for plugfest that I can show without too much disgust!
