Hab's Plugs

Just to let everyone know that we pulled all John's plugs off the wall. We did not want to see them on ebay with people taking advantage of the situation. We let a few customers take what they wanted knowing they would fish them and not sell them.
Our intent is to raffle or auction them off with all money to go to John's family.
We plan to raffle/auction them off just as soon as things calm down.

Be careful...

We did the same thing and if you're like me you'll get reamed out on SOL and get emails every few hours from delusional morons accusing you of taking them down so you can profit from them down the road...

I'll give Chris a call.

I think it is poor taste to assume that anyone who bought up some plugs did so because they thought they could throw them up on ebay. There are some pretty nasty rumors floating around right now about me doing such a thing and I am extremely insuted. beleive it or not, there are people out there who knew john made a good plug and fished them frequently and i am one of those people. But to insinuate that because someone was able to buy a bunch and did so when they could only for financial gain is rediculous. I caught some nice fish on his needles and wanted to make sure that i could in the future...But agian, I dont think it is fair to assume that everyone who rushed out to grab some plugs was doing so for financial motives.

I am really saddened of Johns loss and thought the best way to honor his passing was to continue fishing his plugs... I know he would have wanted it that way and its a shame i m being accused of something i had no intentions of doing...

sorry for the hijack, but I think your assumptions are out of line mike.
Im glad your donating your stock to the family, and i am donating some of my glass work to an auction as well, but I think everyone needs to step back and take a few deep breaths.
John was a great guy and all I wanted to do was make sure i would be able to keep on using his stuff...

You guys are doing the right thing. I stopped in my local shop and he did the same thing, which it seems you may know. His thoughts were completely on the loss of his friend and with the family in mind. Anyone who doesn't understand that can go fly a kite. I'm not sure I saw that thread on SOL, but I imagine that 99.% of us support your decision. I am sorry you even have to make these considerations.

Eben,
I when I read Mike's post I didn't take it the same way. I think he knows that there are people who want them to fish with and he said that. I went to see if any where left for the same reason cause they are great lures. However, in light of the way things are these days and this situation in particular, I would have done the same thing.

the accusations that were blasted at Nebe on the RI forum of the other site were uncalled for and appauling. Pretty sad that can happen and escalate because of a few misguided individuals. I think the 2 guys slinging the crucifiction over there should apologize to him. This isn't the time to let emotions get in the way of facts. that's all I got to say

I got accused of the same...just opened a box with a dozen Habs needles from good folks at Saltwater Edge. They are going to be turned over to Kadir from Aquaskinz to auction them off and donate proceeds to Habs family.I don't know about you but there is a certain viciousness about people today.I was thought by my grandfather to respect the people as if they were saints until they do something to change your mind. That mindset will get you far these days........

Why does it matter what happens to the plugs? A good man is gone, that's what matters. The shop owners who pulled the plugs for the benefit of Hab's Family are to be blessed. And so is Eben, his money has helped, too. This is all so sadly surreal.....

Seemed like a number of neg posters already had or have had issues with Eben.

At times like these, losing John, emotions run wild for some and many men do not know how to handle it.

Godbless John Haberek and Celebrate his life.

Good health and family

Sorry Eben but My asumptions are not out of line.
Time and time again I see it happen.
Perfect example is with RM Smith plugs. I talk to Ryan and he tells me I am the only one to ever get a color. I sell them online with in a week they are on Ebay for $10-$20 more than what they bought them for. That is why we now limit the amount each person can buy on hard to get plugs.
On Sunday we had guys I know who would fish John's lures buying as many as 25 at a time. I did not mind because I knew they would be fished and that is what John would have wanted. I got down to enough lures to recover my costs and the rest IMO should go to John's family.

You did the right thing Mike. I have a bunch of Habs I've bought from you over the course of the summer and all have been put to good use.

Mike, I dont disagree with you for pulling the plugs for the auction- In fact i misread your post and didnt pay any attention to the fact that you let some people buy some to fish.
You did do the right thing

I didn't know john personally and I never had the pleasure of buying or using any of his fantastic plugs. I would love to buy some and try them out.So does that make me a bad person if I bought 2 or three to use.Again I didn't know him but my guess is he would want more of his plugs out there for fisherman like me to use his work of art.I am not a rich man so I can't bid on the auction plugs but wouldn't his family get a portion of any of his plugs that have been sold buy bait shops.
My sincere condolences to john's family and fiends.
