Dust collector noise

Stupid question but...I have no idea how loud a dust collector is. I'm rearranging the cellar and trying to figure out where I should set one up. My shop is fairly small so I dont want a huge ruckus right next to me as I turn.

So quiter than shopvac? Louder? Seems like dumb question, but it will help me prepare for when I get one.

I know their have been lots of posts on dust collectors (and I've read them), but does anyone have an updated recomendation for a collector?

I have a Jet air filtration system set up on the ceiling in one corner, then a portable dust collector that I move around as needed. Usually have them both on while plug making. Don't think they are any louder than a shop Vac. Probably a little quieter.

love the jet air filtration unit- air in shop is crystal clear. i keep my collector in a different room and pipe to it. also helps when you blast the dead and allman bros.

Stormy Monday. Just work in a machine shop for 28 years and machine noise will not bother you anymore. I am getting to be as deaf as a haddock according to the wife. P.

Not worried about my ears as much as the sleeping kids above the basement...haha. If they wake up, my night of fun in the cellar is over.
