solid state drives

SSD's have got to be the best thing to happen to computers in some time. A lot of "upgrades" are barely noticeable but you can't miss the change in performance an SSD brings.

They make a 5, 6, or even 7 year old system feel almost like new... assuming you're not into gaming or doing something that requires serious processing power.

Windows start times are cut in half, browser tabs pop up one after another without a hint of slowdown, pages load instantly, Photoshop boots up promptly, there's nothing you can really pick on when it comes to performance.

They seem to be the way everything is going anyways, but I'll never buy/build another computer without one.

They will come down.....everything PC eventually comes downl. I've seen them dropping in price this week even.

I agrre they are friggin slick....Just can't justify the cost vs the benefit.

256 Gb SSD - $199
500 Gb HDD - $59

I can wait 20 extra seconds for my PC to boot up....I'm not in that big of a hurry.

Thats just me though....

Not saying they aren't the Cat's Ass.....but Like I said, for me Cost vs Benefits isn't there yet.

I mostly use my PC's for Playing/Streaming media, Surfing the Web, and Running Office.....the performance increase would be negligible there for what I do with it, once I boot to the O/S I wouldn't notice any difference....Like my example above, why would I pay 4 times as much for 1/2 the storage capacity if my PC is already responding faster than I need it to, especially with my Typing Skills ....

When I get around to building a new PC for myself, i'll probably buy one, by then I bet I will be able to get 1Tb for about $100

I put in 120gb drives on a couple computers and just turned what was the primary drive into a storage drive.

The performance jump for $85 was enough to overwhelm my normal cheapness...

OS and all programs on the SSD.

The 600 series 240gig seagate is $129 @ Amazon.

I'm just waiting for the 480's to drop in price before i jump on one..

LOL @ OCZ deal... sorry Dadfisherman..
bundle junky softyware with an iffy SSD and wait 18 weeks for a $90 rebate actually 2 different rebates a $60 for the software and $30 for the drive. I'm sure you'll get the $30 for the drive and i'm sure they will find a reason to deny you the $60 for the software. While in the mean time TigerDirect "secure" server will get compromised again and you will see "itune purchases" on your CC statement.

FYI rebate requirments
You have to pay for AV service

SSD's are worth every penny!!!!!
my current computer has 2, 1Gb ssd's and no hard drive. I have a network drive to do backups to. SSD's make the processor so much more efficient because it never is waiting for data. Put an ssd in an ageing machine that bogs down and presto! it will run better then it did when it was new. < 5 sec bootup time and almost no program lag. Way less heat,no popcorn noise, no mechanical wear or breakdowns, less energy consumption and faster than anything you can imagine. Just do it.
