if only

the farmers were harvesting all that
algae to make bio deisel fuel since its their
damned fertilizer out there growing it...

but down in that area the oil barrons
control who gets to do what.

we'll have our own dead sea soon.

Same thing happens in western Long Island Sound, sometimes covering a rather large area. Happens in summer, when algal blooms are at their peak, and less wind to agitate and oxegenate the water.
