Bill Moyers on PBS is really the only one with any credibility but doesn't cover the issues on a nightly basis as the others do. He's out of the old-school Cronkite/Murrow mold of serious journalists.

Although I watch some or mostly all of Olberman, Matthews and Maddow almost every night, I find sometimes I just can't take the manic ranting for very long - however they do pick up on some important points that the others seem to miss.

I think they need to downgrade to decaf or something - it would make it a little more bearable...

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.

Smug - yes, annoying occasionally. Right? Sadly more often than not.

I think Obama will be one of our finest presidents. It was an honor to vote for him.

I hope your right Sean.

The values that made America great , independence, self-reliance, and reward for hardwork are no longer in play.

Everything the right had warned about Obama and the Socialists has come to pass, despite all of the previous attempts to dismiss his rhetoric, associations, and history. Pelousi, Reed and Obama have set a clear direction they want to take this country. You can no longer claim that he is an agent of change or a centrist.

This is pretty simple.

In general, the conservative hosts do two things:

1) They tap into common sense beliefs that most people agree with

and

2) They leverage the sense of optimism that's the foundation of America and a free market economy (i.e. we're right and markets will grow)

The national Liberal hosts like on Air America tend to be more reactive which is common among Liberals in general. The Liberal case is often outrage at how things are and as such new (or progressive) ideas are necessary.

Now combine this with two aphorisms that I tend to favor...

1) Most people think they're own %$%$%$%$ doesn't stink

and

2) Better the devil you know than the devil you don't

And you have your answer as to why Conservative talk radio is popular.

it is very hard for me to watch the people that came to Obama's roadshow and like this country. All their questions are "what are you doing for me"? "How can you help me?" " I work at McDonalds, can you help me get better benefits?"
It truly sickens me and embarrasses me. This is NOT America.

I think Buckman is being fair in that this was our biggest fear pre-Obama, I just never thought he would act so quickly. I can't beleive that many of you defend this and are proud of it?

Its amazing to me that you take a snapshot of people and apply it to all of America. I'm pretty sure that I work hard and am Self-reliant and independant...I'd bet that is the same for everybody on this board. and to apply that America, the whole, is not like that.....is assinine. There are plenty of people out there that still hold American values....even ones that voted for Obama. I'm pretty sure the people you butt heads here in the political forum are all working and not looking for hand-outs either.

are there problems, Abso-Friekin-Lutely.....but I haven't given up on it......sorry to see you have.

the amount of people you reference above are dwindling. You will soon be the minority. the president is not leading you, he is the leading the ones I refer to.
Dont agree? Go to every presidential town hall EVER, and see if anyone has spoken the way have to. No one has addressed a US president the way they do now. its the new America Dad and honeslty I dont think you, I or any hard working Americans will be part of it, except paying the bill

I agree on your points.
My point was, that is not the direction this country is now heading. Everyone expects a hand out because thats what Obama has promised. The town meetings he now holds would be a funny SNL skit. It's pathetic. He does not drive home what made America great. He appeases people with promises of what he will do for them.

Unfortunately he is coming across as the great panderer.
I wonder if he is going to get larger pockets made in his pants so he can carry dimes to hand out like Rockefeller.

I guess yours and my idea of what America stands for are different. I see those same people as saying, "we're working our butt off and can't get ahead- working 2 jobs and not having health benefits". Their doing the right things and falling further and further behind. Their worried about putting food on their tables for their kids and are worried about losing their houses.

My idea of America was that we all would help and be judged on how we would treat the less fortunate amongst us. That people who worked hard and tried to do the right thing would be able to afford decent housing and be able to put food on their table. That someone would not be judged by his religion.

It truly sickens me and embarresses me what we have become - The racists things said about Obama when he was running for Pres. was an EMBARRASSMENT! The class warfare going on now is disheartening. This is NOT America (but I still love it and won't consider going to another country).

RIJIMMY, these are statements I 100% agree with you on.

Another time when the country was in crisis, a smart man said:
"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. "

Your right Paul.
The people that worked hard would be rewarded and it would be their choice who they helped. Freedom of choice.

I never saw the racists things you saw. I think it helped him more then hurt him. IMO

I fully agree. It is a shame the selfish, litigious(sp?) nature this country has turned into. Me, Me, Me is what it's all about and too many people are instilling this mentality into their children.

In all this political crap, it's not that I agree with the Democrats. I disagree with a large amount of what they do. I just disagree 10x more with what the Republicans do/have done.
