800 people were rounded up after crossing border

(Newser) – Eight hundred Central American migrants were rounded up and hauled onto buses by Mexican national guardsmen and immigration agents after crossing into the country early Thursday and walking for hours along a rural highway. The migrants had stopped for the day at a shaded crossroads when hundreds of national guard troops advanced their lines to within 100 yards of the migrants, the AP reports. A brief negotiation stalled after Mexican authorities said the migrants "demanded permits for free transit through Mexico to the United States." The migrants knelt to the ground in prayer and began to chant "we want to pass." National guardsmen in riot gear advanced banging their plastic shields with batons and engaged the migrants. There was shoving and pepper spray as migrants were rounded up.

Many of the people allowed themselves to be escorted to 20 waiting buses without resistance. Others resisted and were subdued by guardsmen. One man dragged by four guardsmen shouted "they killed my brother, I don't want to die," presumably in reference to the possibility of being returned to his country. Carrying US and Honduran flags at the head of the procession, the migrants had been walking on a highway toward hundreds of national guardsmen since crossing the Suchiate river from Guatemala at dawn. Mexico has cracked down on the large caravans seen previously following intense pressure from Washington last year. Hundreds of members of the caravan detained after crossing the border Monday have been returned to Honduras on buses and planes.

That was a huge win for Trump, and spits in the face of the notion that we are isolationists who have lost all standing among our neighbors and partners.

wayne, do you think we ought to welcome every human being on the planet who wants to come here? Or are there limits to how
many we can support? If you think there are limits, that necessarily means we need to control the illegals.

your brain needs help.

800 THIS time. There were other caravans which were stopped before since Trump negotiated with Mexico. Illegal border crossings have dropped precipitously, but the left's narrative is that Trump's efforts have not made things any better, probably worse. Hey that's OK as long as we get a few little columns every now and then that tell us different--you know, the Press's responsibility (to which the MSM gives little regard) to tell us ALL the news so we can make informed decisions.

People coming to America to improve one's llfe is the history of America seeing the US is major cause of this migration for our actions in the 80s . We destabilized most of south America.. but hea like everything in Trumps world practices and procedures don't apply

Sorry I'm not willing to give up my humanity , and cheer that 800 migrants didn't make it , fleeing pervasive violence, persecution, and poverty

We don't have open borders and never have , and the US could take in a million refugees with out blinking an eye if the need arose

I bet if Israel wanted to send 800 migrants you'd meet them at the airport with a care package

Fyi. Visa Overstays have exceeded EWIs (entries without inspection) ever year since 2007, and 600,000 more overstays than EWIs have arrived since 2007.

Now Trumps after birth tourism just in time for the election,,, seeing he cares so much

Good for you. You're a compassionate man. Perhaps you could take one of the migrants into your household and give him/her a better life. So long as you paid for it all, and he/her didn't get the right to vote until he/her returned to Guatemala and then applied legally for entrance here and citizenship, the rest of us would heartily applaud you.

In the meantime, the President is dealing with an illegal immigration problem that most seem to think needs to be solved. The problem has abated somewhat under his leadership, but much more needs to be done. Perhaps, you being compassionate, you could somehow donate your time and resources to help in this important endeavor.

wdmso, you didn’t answer my question. Can we take in every single person who wants to come here, or are there limits?

i know a guy who waited for years in al albania for the chance to come here legally. it’s nit fair to those who play by the rules ( and suffer while doing so) that we let others cut to the front of the line.

The question you ask only exist in your mind and other like minded anti immigration

We already had controls along our border long before Trump

Not sure where you get the idea the there aren't limits oh! wait I know because I don't cheer at 800 people being detained by Mexico and praise Trump for stemming the invasion, I think we should allow any one in...

Funny that's the same thinking the right uses with Iran , your a terrorists sympathizer if you disagree with Trump

Another one who lives in a fantasy we have open borders and athe US pays for them and he needs to stem an issue that doesn't exist shocking ,

Since 2005 illegal immigration has steadily gone down.

dodged again.

yes we have excellent controls when we detain thousands of
illegals every month.

i’m not anti immigration, i love immigration. Immigrants who
come here willing to work for a better life, make for some
of the best citizens around. But i’m for legal immigration. I don’t think we should flippantly decide
which laws were going to
enforce and which we will ignore. both sides guilty of that.

Yes we have great controls
at the border. A few years ago, a kid running for congress wanted to show how open the border is. he was on the mexican side, he rented an elephant and a
mariachi band. he crossed the border riding on top of the elephant, surrounded by a mariachi band playing loudly. He made it across while riding an elephant surrounded by a band. Tell us more about the controls we have in place?

The "caravan" form basically started after Trump was elected. They freely traveled through Mexico, often even aided by Mexico, to the US border. Once crossing the border, they were taught to claim asylum so that they could not be returned without a lengthy court process and many just disappeared into the U.S. population.

Due to Trump's negotiations, Mexico is now stopping the caravans from getting to the U.S. And migrants who claim asylum have to do so in the first country (Mexico) they enter. There are many ways that illegals have used to get and stay here. This is one that threatened to grow into a huge mess unless stopped.

He has a hard time distinguishing between immigrants and ILLEGAL immigrants. They like to lump them all together.

that’s the liberal tactic here, lump
them all together. not sure why it’s bigoted to support legal
immigration but oppose illegal immigration. but they all say it is.

Not sure how having controls is a dodge of your imaginary question

Good luck on your wish for zero illegal immigration it never going to happen

But your willingness to spend 11 billion just to build on Trump's border wall to stem this invasion where Trump suggest it cost American 200 billion a year

Yet. Undocumented immigrants are incredible contributors to our economy and are not eligible for public benefits that people think they come here for,"

Did you get that. Part not eligible for public benefits. Yet they are paying taxes that state and local governments take in $11.74 billion

Dont get upset that your sky is falling immigration mantra isn't supported with evidence

Just like you suggested Australian fire have nothing to do with climate change but arson

Not being eligible does not mean that they don't get benefits. Many states do provide benefits, regardless of federal policies. California and New York are prime examples.
