How did the GOP drive the car into the ditch?

OK, so I keep hearing Obama and his liberal ilk say that the Republicans are at fault for the economy, and that poor Obama simply inherited that mess.

Can someone explain that? The Dems took over Congress in January 2007. At that time, unemployment was at 4.6percent, and the Dow was at 12,600. Seems to me, what the Dems "inherited", was a thriving economy.

The subprime mortgage crisis, including the packaging and selling of the mortgages, caused this mess. Not low taxes.

There are a few different issues. The current economic crisis and the deficit. The deficit is impacted by the crisis, but the deficit did not cause the crises. The current economic crisis was caused by multiple factors - mortgage, packaged debt, low interest rates, push for home ownership. The only republican that deserves a ton of blame is Greenspan. Obama has continually said that GOP policies led to the economic collapse and that is simply untrue. I also dont blame the Dems for this. Obama, truly did inherit this mess. But you dont spend your way out of a credit crisis.
The deficit problem was caused by both - Repubs - wars, Dems - stimulus.
Low taxes delay payoff of the debt, however, we can also spend less! This is the approach I agree with teh Repubs on. The Dems want to spend and tax.
