Ballerina type plugs info request

I am turni g some ballerinas that I know the proper placement of the weight, but I am more curious about the walking the dog type surface lure thats been so popular the last couple if years. The bone colored stick that has been featured on so many ads. I know it is straight wired for the most part, but I am curious if anyone has put the line tie underneath the nose and had better results when fishing them?
